Binocs review.
#1
Wanted a compact binocular for crossbow deer hunting; tired of hauling 2 lb binocs around. After checking out a bunch I settled on the Pentex DCF LV, in 9x28. Just 11 oz of pure binoc joy. Great optical quality, good controls and ergonomics for less than $200. There is no Z or L in it's name but I'm impressed. Everyone that purchased them rated them 5 out of 5. I that's what sold me.

Cossak,
Another one to consider is the Bushnell 8X25 waterproof. From Cabela's I think. Couldn't have been too expensive because... I'm cheap!!!
It is a tad heavy but, I've used it on 3 Boundary Waters wilderness trips and they hold up like iron!!
Dropped them, kicked them, dunked them and hunted in the cold and rain w/them, drove tent stakes w/them, etc. Still sharp. Took them from a warm cabin to 0 deg. and back over a couple of days of hunting - no fog or water infiltration.
Weight is ALWAYS a consideration on a wilderness canoe trip, but these heavy-for-use binocs were worth the extra ounces. Will carry them a lot for hunting, camping, canoeing, fishing, nude beaches, etc.

I've got several pair of heavier binocs that I use for birding, travel and gun hunting. These are a dream to carry at 11 oz and have pretty decent glass for their price. I use them for archery because everything I carry has to fit into my safety vest as I walk in.
