What's your take on the subject

I can recall a time when bow hunters used long bows or recurves made of wood or steel. Compound bows that can shoot accurately at least three time the distance of the former didn't even exist. That's why I find it so intriguing that some of those who use compound bows and have benefited from an archery season are so adamant about restricting the use of crossbows. CB's are nothing more than a progression of archery that offers bow hunters another choice of weaponry for their sport. They are no more effective, and perhaps less so, than a modern compound bow. (They are much noisier and one is highly unlikely to get a second shot on the same animal). Ethical CB hunters still limit their shots on game to their ability; mine is 35 yards even though I practice daily.
I happen to enjoy hunting with handguns and single shot rifles. But I don't rail against those who prefer multi cartridge long guns. It's still hunting. And as long as it isn't detrimental to the game population we pursue I see no point in limiting their use. And if that should become the case then population management should affect equally all those who enjoy (and pay for) the privileged of hunting.
At 67 and two bad wings I can no longer pull a long bow, much less a compound. But xb's have given me the ability to hunt "up close" again and I'm in the field every opportunity available to me. I can only hope that all those who also desire to do so using a CB will one day be able to..... regardless of their physical status.
