I just got a Horton Explorer HD 150 package deal last week. ( I am a complete cross bowrookie)It has the single dot Red dot scope mounted on it. Yesterday I tried to sight it in and ... well I finally put it back in the truck after about 60 shots.
I was trying to sight it in from 10 yards, the Dial A Range set at 0 and the arrows were going over the back of the 3-D Deer about 3 feet and about a foot to the right. The best I could ever get it was about 2 feet high and still right.
The scope came pre mounted on the crossbow. BUT let me ask and I have never shot any kind of weapon with a red dot scope; but shouldn't the "dot" be dead center of the scope? To me the dot looks low and to the left. I mean I can see the end of bow, the rails and the dot is to the left of the rails. I may just need to return it and exchange for another crossbow.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is a great forum and I look forward to learning alot.

Something has to be way off. Are you sure it was set at zero and not a number on the opposite side some how? If it is set on zero then you have a bad scope or a ring problem. On red dots the dot will appear to move as your head moves around, the shooter can make to dot appear to move in the scope. I have seen red dots and even regular scopes damage real easy from falls or what ever. The cheapest advise I can give you is go to wal-mart and buy a cheap red dot scope and put it on and see how it does. You can get one for 25 bucks most of the time and that will help you eliminate the scope or bow. Take the rings off and make sure they are OK and not damaged, along with inspect the scope rail. But if you bought this new I would take it right back and tell them something is not right. Two feet high at ten yards is almost unheard of IMO. Something has to be way off.

Thanks for the reply. Yes it is a brand new Horton and I think I will just exchange it for a new one. My buddy just got a new PSE and was sighted in after only 3 shots............this one must have been dropped or something.
Again thanks for the advice.

Check the mounting. Believe it or not I once picked up a bow (in a shop) whose red dot was on BACKWARDS! If you're shooting high the scope has to come up (not down). That makes the rail of the bow come down, along with the arrow. The red dot should be centered or close to it. First center the dot, making sure the mount is on properly and the dial a range properly assembled. (They are nothing but trouble, some folks just bolt them in one position). They shoot from 10 yards. If it shoots high and you can't adjust the dot down far enough, the front of the red dot scope hs to elevated.

sproule to rescue..
here we go kids.
dial-a-range should be set on no.1 not zero for 10 yards..
no.2 for 20 yards..
now, sight bow in at 10 yds on 1,then go to 20 yards and set it on 2 and SIGHT IT IN..
LEAVE it on no.2 and use the first or thick high crosshair in scope, thats your 20 yd one.
next one is 30 yd,then 40 yd, then 50 yd..
dont move the dial a range off no.2 once you sight in from 20 yds..
keep it on no.2 always..
thats it from sproul .................................................. ..............

Allright..................thanks for the advice and I will give that a try before I head back to exchange it. It can't hurt to give itanother chance, I always figured it was the ESO switch (Equipment Superior to Operator) LOL!
