Does anyone know what Bill Toubridge's gear was for elephant? I assume he was using his 225# crossbow but I was wondering if he weighted his bolts to get better penetration and what his choice in broadheads was. Anyone know? Thanks. Grndhntr

well not to put too fine a point on it(Pun Intended) How hard is it actually to snipe at an elephant at a safe distance and pick him off. It just does not seem like much of a challenge(Let alone the size of the target)

It took him something like 10 days to get set up for a shot on, what I believe was his second trip after one. The equipment was as best as I can recall: stock Emax, double walled arrow w/ 125 gr two blade Magnus B-head, total weight 900 gr, about 250 fps and the same in k.e.

There have been several elephants killed by arrows over the years by various archers, but I believe this was the first by xbow. The shot was approx 20 yds and would have been a complete pass-thru except arrow lodged in off side leg bone. Forgot to add, the natives carved about 4000 lbs of meat off of it, so would guesstimate it went about 9000 or so on the hoof.

Barron, no offence meant by that but you are being an arm chair quarter back. The distance that the elephant was arrowed at is far from a safe distance. Not to say that there was any big talent on the shooters side needed to take the shot but there isn't enough money for me to take that shot. Well maybe the shooter had to be real steady under duress. The last thing I want to be is an exclamation mark on the bottom of the foot of a wounded elephant! There was a 50/50 chance of that elephant looking for an eye for an eye!
I just looked at the film clip last weekend but I've known it was there since it was first posted because I personally did not want to see an animal of that nature killled.
