Some of you may remember when I started a thread here about a thousand shot challenge this summer to practice for the hunting season. I shot from 15-30 yds all offhand shots and counted my misses on 1,000 shots. I ended up missing 8 times (outside of a 9" target) for the 1,000 shotsand it took me more than a month. I used the same bolt (just for fun) for every shot.
Last Friday I got the opportunity to shoot a mule deer buck with the crossbow. It was about a 30 yd. shot. It hit a little farther back than I would like but the buck only ran about 60 yds. and layed down. I was able to retrieve my bolt and then watched until I was sure he wouldn't run off (about 15 min.). I used the same bolt to finish him with a lung shot (didn't want to get another one bloody :^). Turns out the first shot hit liver and 1 lung. Then I noticed that it was my 1,000 shot bolt! The second shot went through a scapula (shoulder blade) and the buck snapped it in half whenhe flipped over so I guess I'll have toretire that bolt. I thought it was kinda fun that I happened to kill a deer with that bolt. I guess I got my money out of that one.
