Mathews its depending on how much punch your xbow packs. I shoot a quad 300 and i always shoot anywheres from 5yrds to 50 and know i can do it but have never had the oppertunity as i get my deer as close as 5 to 30 yrds away but yes if i have a 50 yrd shot im going for it. Oh and as for broad beads make sure there sharp and can open ive done alot of testing and i know my xbow will open my 125 gr shock waves at 50 yrds. But its up to your bow and you as well as you know you can make a leathel hit and kill. The last thing we want is and animal walking around and suffering good luck to you. And hope this helps some what.

Any time you go much past 35 yds, you are taking a huge chance on string jump, I personally won't go over 35 on a deer.

I have just received my Barnett Quad400 and am extremly pleased with
the package!Got the whole thing at a very fair price and am shooting it
for the first time today. The quality of every thing is great, the only thing
I am concerned about is that there are no markings on the arrows and
I am looking to purchase some but dont know what these are so am on
my way to the local pro shop for all new and save these for stumpinh
or what ever, you will not be sorry on the Barnett my hunting partner has
one and loves it,good luck on your search!

U can if its broadside and calm, i prefer 30 yds. or less myself. My Bow can reach that far and kill one.

It is generally accepted that anything past 30 to 40 yards is not reponsible. Thirty is the accepted norm. I love the animals I shoot and would not shoot at any deer that is calm beyond 40 yards and beyond 30 if it acts "twitchy or nervous". Some guys will not shoot beyond 30 regardless. The range is no different from a fast compound bow. Do yourself a favour and check out how long it takes for a crossbow arrow to reach 50 yards. Then ask yourself if something could happen during that period. Then ask yourself if you think it is fair to take that risk on an animal. Then ask yourself if it is humane to take a risk. Then ask yourself if it is responsible to take a shot at a sure thing. These are the questions I ask myself on every single shot. No judgement made on anyone here just a reality check.

Ditto On DNK's remarks! It is a misconception that a big bad CB can go out real far like fifty yards with no problem and get it done, but that is false to a certain point. You know as well as I do there are some long bow guys that are pro shooters, and I mean that seriously and can and do take long shots with a vertical bow, seen lots of guys on TV do it with success. I have my bow in a three inch circle at fifty and know that I could hit the boiler room with no problem on a deer at that yardage. But as Dnk said there is alot that can happen in fifty yards that you cannot control. I think I would pass/ turn chicken on a deer past thirty yards, I do it all the time. In fact I like to keep my shots less thantwenty and have enough deer in my area that I can let alot pass and wait for shots like that. Like I said, lessthan thirty, dead deer! Over thirty five/ forty and you open up the door to alot of unknowns and can do bad things to deer that are notnecessary.
