I just got one of these for outings & while hunting...

Can anyone explain how this works or does someone have a video on how to use it? I know it said to use a rock or knife and shave off some of the magnesium from the block as fuel. What does that 'rod' do thats on the side of the unit? Does it come out of the slot or something?

That's the flint. You have to shave a small pile of the magnesium off and put it in a small pile and have a bit of kindling nearby. Use something an d rub it againt the flint to make sparks and it will ignite the magnesium, then throw your kindling on top of it and it will usually start up because that magnesium gets HOT!

So I have to strike the 'rod' (flint) with a knife or something to initiate the spark, right?
