Watched his goofy show yesterday just because, but he showed a way to hang strips of meat to make jerky. After marinating the strips in a bag he hung them on the backporch (unprotected) and sprayed something on the meat that he said would keep ALL insects away from it. He said it was coming to the market sometime soon and that they had been using it for years. What is it? I would think some sort of vinegar based spray would really affect the taste of the meat. If this stuff works, I could see it working on everything from picnics and BBQs to a simple meal on the backporch.
Any clues?

When we were in the Bahamas we ate all our lunches at outside beach bars. We learned there that, if you put a few drops of hot sauce around the edge of your plate, the flies will leave you alone. I wouldn' t trust meat hanging outside for hours, though.

Dunno jersey, it was a dark liquid spray that he used. As for hotsauce, I wouldnt think that would work well for all foods, but what the heck I' ll try it on the backporch and see.

Once while eating at Restaraunt outside I noticed a clear plastic bag filled with water hanging in the doorway and asked what it was for. They told me the water in the plastic bag refracts the sunlight and hurts the flies eyes and keeps them from going inside. It seemed to be working real well. Maybe give that a try also. Just something to ponder. [" it was a dark liquid spray that he used" ] could it have been liquid smoke?
