do you need to have a bowhunting class, to get a license there? i know other states you have to. and sooner or later you will have to have one in every state, so it is a good thing to find a class. but i was wondering if i could get away from it this year?

Ive been hunting PA for 24 years. You do not need a class to bowhunt but I feel they should!!!! Not only a class but a hands on test and written tests. I can't believe some of the bowhunters in my area.....

I sorry but I don't know why anyone would want to here in pa. Yeah we have a few nice bucks 115 thats a pretty good one for pa.I live and hunt pa hard.I been only shoot bucks that are outside there ears and I haven;t got one yet. Have seen a few but not very many. So that why I go to ohio I think the odds are better.Now don;t get me wrong we have 130's and up but few. One more thing last hunting season was the worst.Just saw 9 deer 1st 4 weeks of season from my tree stands ..SO good luck

il have to disagree, this past season was the best year for bucks since i started hunting i saw 32 legal bucks during archery season this year, the deer numbers in PA are definately down, but the quality of trophy buks are up and the buck to do ration is definately getting down to where it needs to be its not there yet but its coming, i definately reccomend coming to PA to hunt, would reccomend trying to find a farm or frined wiht land though, public land here gets pounded and deer get pressured quick good hunting

yea it isn't bad but if you get in the woods and do some real good scouting you have very good odds of seeing a very large buck.

hell i have 5 bucks that come into my corn that are bigger then 115! i have seen at least 10 bucks this year that where at least 150 or better. i saw 2 while hunting and the rest where seen while driveing. so their are some big boys. it won't help any if you are hunting a bad spot in PA or a bad spot in Texas

Large buck distribution varies greatly in this state. All you have to do is read the posts, one guy says they are few and far between the other sees 150's as common place. If you are hunting public land be prepared for some time invested and the good chance of seeing few deer. If you have a place that isn't hunted too much, you could see some more numbers and nicer deer. Those places are becoming fewer and fewer here in PA.

I have to agree with killer, I have seen 3 8 pointers this week that are bigger than 120. The biggest was probably just over 150 but it would be nothing to get a 120+ deer if you put in any kind of scouting time.

To answer Big Ten's original question, you do not need a class but you do need an archery stamp that would be an additional $16 for resident and $26 for non-resident. Dont count on the public land unless you can put in a lot of scout time, it gets hit hard.....
