Default Leaf River Q's.......

So I just bought a Leaf River DC-2BU (with the LCD screen) online and it should be here before this weekend when I travel to my families property in PA (where I do most of my bowhunting). We just had the property logged and the deer have already started focusing on our property according to my father that lives on the property. We decided we wanted to get some pics of what was wandering around down there..........

My question is this. I want to get 1 additional memory card so my dad can swap them in the field and bring one to the house to email me pics when I am up in NY during the week. Does the camera come with a swappable card, or is it built in. What model of swappable memory card does it come with? What is the cheapest card reader device for the computer that works well that he can use to view the pictures on the memory stick?

Also, I wanted to thank IL-Cornfed for the good reviews and reccomendations on the Leaf River. I almost bought the cuddeback. I got my Leaf River on Ebay brand new on a Buy It Now auction for $315 shipped to my door brand new with warranty.

Congrats on the new digi cam, you and your Dad will love it. The LR units do NOT come with a CF Card but they do have an internal memory that will store 50-2.1MP images. CF Cards and Card Readers can be bought pretty cheap on Ebay and you don't really need a more expensive high capacity card. Just buy 2 and you'll be set.

On another note, IF you ever want to purchase additonal LR cams contact me. I have a buddy from another that is now a Leaf River Dealer and sells them at a very good price. In fact, he has the DC-1 models now for $249.... SHIPPED!

I also wanted to add that the MasterLock PYTHON is the best locking mechanism I have found for these cams. IF you want or need one, this is the one to have IMO. Good luck and keep us posted?

IL-cornfed I took your suggestion and got the masterlock python and when it gets cold the plastic coating on the cable gets hard and you can slide the cable back through the lock ever had this problem.

I too just bought a Leaf River on the advice from IL. It is in the woods right now. I bought 2 128 MB CF cards on Ebay for $12 a piece. And a CF card reader for $10. I just saw that Circuit City has 128 Mb on sale now fow around $20.
IL, how far down the trail do you set up your camera? Or do you mostly set it up on a feed site? I'm trying to get used to the slower wake up speed compared to my 35 mm. How many pics can I expect on a 128 MB card on normal resolution? And where do you set your sensitivity controller? Right now I have it set in the middle.
Thanks

HA.... I didn't realize I "sold" so many LR's?? Maybe I should be a Dealer?? All kidding aside, they have been very good cams for me and my friends. I have not experienced or even heard of anybody having ANY problems with the Python regradless of weather?? As far as setting them up, I do like trying to place them at feeding areas or by placing a little deer scent, of any kind, near the cam. This wil generally stop the deer for a perfect photo. When I must set up any digital trail cam along a trail I will angle the cam with the trail and generally will get many quality shots. The only time you won't really get decent results is if you set the cam to close to the trail. Don't set the cam just a few feet from a trail facing staright and expect to get much of the deer, just put a slight quartering angle on it and you should get very impressive results. Here is an example of the angle I set on standard trails. It still catches the Doe and then the fawn right behind her also gets a nic pic. I also included a pic of a Doe going the opposite direction and again, the LR picked her up with NO problems.

I haven't ever had my lenses fog up but I make extra sure I always get a tight close on the unit as I flip the latches. I have also thought about applying some of that anti-fog spray like a lot of folks put on their glasses, just in case. I think it would be a good tip for ANY cam.

I agree with that but the lens foged up on the inside. The guy at manufactor said it must be a bad gasket. I still love the cam I get great pics.

rick, i got my compact flash cards at jesses when i bought my leaf river. $16.95 for the 128MB cards. they also have the python locks for $19 and the card readers. i should have bought the tv card viewer thing that lets you use your tv to view your photos but i forgot, next order i'll get that. my buddy loves his and its easy to use with the remote clicker
