Default Goofy target panic!!!

This might sound a little on the strange side but let me know what you think or what I should try to do. When I shoot outdoors at the Black Hole or my 3-D buck, I shoot perfect and on the screws. As soon as I go indoors to shoot a 5 spot or even a large single spot, I get a case of the flinches aka target panic. It doesn't happen all the time but tonight it made me pack up and head home. What am I nuts or what?

Stone, It happens to just about everyone that shoots for many years. I help instruct JOAD shooter and researched this subject quite a bit. Two of the main causes are poor CONCENTRATION and CREAPING. Many advanced shooters that start to win their class begin to try too hard to make a perfect shot rather than concentration on form and repetition. Work on one form function at a time. The only way to cure target panic is to work through it with good form and repetition.[:-]

The Answer release would be a good way to help cure it. It is a non punch release. Also a decent back tension release will help. I had target panic so bad that it didn't matter which pin was on the target the arrow was gone. I worked with back tension and the answer and ended up taking a state title last year. I would have never thought that to be possible. Hard work and proper practicing can go a long way. If you would like some more info shoot me a PM and I would be glad to tell you what worked for me. You cleared the fist hurdle. You admitted that you have a problem. A problem like Sniper says, almost all good shooters have had at one time or another. I think it safe to say that a huge majority of people reading these posts have it in one form or another.

I started to get pretty bad target panic. I bought a handheld thumb trigger and have started shooting back tension. It takes practice and concentration to learn but everyday, it feels more and more natural.

do yourself a favor and buy yourself a backetension even if it is one with a safety like the ones that tru ball has to offer, dont even bother with the thumb release you can punch them just as good, get a backtension and get somebody that shoots one to teach you on it, youl never look back
