Default Care and Feeding of Crossbows?

Does anyone have any information or links to information on restringing a crossbow?(and/or other work I can do on my bow itself) I have a Horton Yukon XL and this weekend my cats decided that the string looked tasty. They didn't cut all the way through it, but they frayed it out enough that I want to change it before I shoot it again. Any resources on crossbows would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Horton
This link will take you to their website , if it doesn't list a toll free number try (800) 555-1212 Toll Free Directory Asst. , they probably have it listed . Either will provide you with a list of local dealers and/or other suppliers . I presume that it's a compound model rather than a trad . Both of mine are trads for just this reason , I can restring a trad myself .

I think restringing is like my horton Hunter .
Cock the crossbow
Hook the new string on the other side of the string ancors
Let the string down easy ( uncock)
New string should be tighter than the old , remove old string ,cut if nessary

If problems or questions E-mail me [email protected]

Since there is no dedicated crossbow forum here ,
and crossbows can't chamber or fire a bullet , this forum is the appropriate one for crossbows . If you don't like it being here then complain to Admin . I'd like to see a dedicated crossbow forum too .

Since you are hesitant in attempting to cock it then you will be unable to use some of the devices made for restringing a crossbow. A regular bow press, assuming it can accomodate the shape of your crossbow, will need to be utilized to relax the limbs and install the new string.

I recently purchased a crossbow for my girlfriends step father and it came with a cable that is used for stringing the bow. It is a cheaper model, but the same principle should work.

If you don't find what you are looking for here try some crossbow forums.

Here is a thread I started already with a couple.

And you have to keep the string and rail on those things lubed very well or they get messe up pretty quick.

Good luck,
Paul
