I bought an ameristep penthouse blind to try out this season.
I've almost always hunted from a climber, or a box stand on a club.
Though the climbers do have their advantages, they also have a disadvantsge, like movement the slightes move when sighting on a deer
can result in the deer spoting you or ( and yes, this does happen cause it happened to me last season) a deer seeing you and at the moment you shoot it drops to it's haunches ducking the shot. Unfortunatley I have to hunt public land this season cause of school, and work scheduals, which would make it unreasonable( at least to my wife) to pay $400 or more for a club membership. I've been checking out a couple of WMAs here near Warner Robbins, GA, and one near Macon, GA. The OAKYWOODS WMA looks pretty good. Anyways, I was just curious as to using a pop up blind on public land. If anybody that lives near PERRY, or Warner Robbins wants to get together this season,
and hunt, or bend the ear e-mail me.

Hey Red....
I usually hunt out of a climber or chain on's myself.I bought the rifleman blind this year.More or less for scouting deer movements. And thought it would be good for Turkey hunting. The rifleman does'nt offer much room for a bowhunter. But i tried it out on targets and i can make it work.Does yours have the carbon linning?Last weekend i had a doe sick her nose into my blind. It real must work!!
It's not how big the Deer,But the size of the experiance that matters!!

RGH,
I don't have the penthouse model but I do have the doghouse model and I have been using it over the last few weeks for deer scouting and for goose hunting. So far I am very impressed with the blinds ability to fool game though you do have to take the usual precautions regarding your path to your hunting spot, placement of the blind, etc.... I have found that scent gets trapped quite a bit inside the blind, provided you seal it up correctly. Some models offer scent eliminating member window covers but I have pretty much gotten by with spraying carbon spray on the mesh window coverings.
All in all I would say it is an excellent investment and I would recommend it to anyone.
