RE: I AM SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT ONCE AND FOR ALL!
<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote<font size=1 face='Verdana, Arial, Helvetica' id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>Why then do you post things that don't refer to the audience you are writing too!??? <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face='Verdana, Arial, Helvetica' size=2 id=quote>
RAD, speaking for myself and at the risk of making this sound ridiculously simple, it's because the point I'm trying to make has nothing to do with the makeup of a very small segment of hunters. It is referring to hunters in general. So, in order to make a point about hunters in general, you cannot refer to the audience that does not represent them. The average hunter is not hard-core, does not practice QDM and doesn't care anything about which feminine products you use. <img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> |
RE: I AM SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT ONCE AND FOR ALL!
wow, never really thought people got off like this on realtree other than animal rights activist? personally, he has worked, and has made money somehow, so he can choose how he hunts.
i guess i make up part of the "unknown" percent that shoots at whatever comes by and is legal. i have been hunting for 4 or 5 years, and i am yet to harvest a buck, but if i haven't killed my limit, i will shoot a doe in a heartbeat, because i love the meat and it supplies a good part of our ground meat. does the video give you a hope? a sort of displaced meaning? a bridge to a future ideal, that is not quite obtainable, but to many it brings joy and happiness. (material from Grant McCracken) to me they are fellow hunters, as long as they are ethical, let them choose the way they want to hunt. RE: I AM SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT ONCE AND FOR ALL!
Some things never change. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> Ok, just a couple thoughts. Old Bill only shot two deer this year because he had knee or hip surgury and was a half cripple for a majority of the time. It wasn't because the hunting was tough or anything like that. He simply couldn't go up in a tree or get out and scout. He was quite limited. I personnally feel sorry for him on that account... not envious because he has better hunting ground and cameras than I do. Secondly, NO it's not the type of hunting I have. But guess what... Mel Gibson doesn't have the kind of life I have either but I sure do enjoy watching his movies. I enjoy the shows for what they are. They really don't teach me anything to use in my woods. I wouldn't know how to act in a heated house.[;(] I don't think Bill and the others ever told you this is the way "REAL" hunting is and you should mimic it. He says we had a great time making this video. Sit back and watch the non-stop action(and a few commercials--which by the way they have during the Super Bowl or anything else you watch). It's just their commercials aren't geared to what I like..... HUNTING. Give them a break. He has a great job, does a decent job, makes more money than us, and has better hunting than us. We can mess up and no one is around to critique. He can't climb in a tree without someone looking for something to complain about.

RE: I AM SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT ONCE AND FOR ALL!
Bill and the boys have one heck of a gig. I enjoy their videos for what they are. I certainly don't look to incorporate much into my hunting techniques from watching them but I do love seeing the bucks they film. It is soooo obvious almost all of the time that there is no way possible they are hunting fenced in areas. Like the Milk River in Montana. You can look over the hunters shoulder in the treestand or when they are out scouting and see for miles and miles and there are no fences. Areas like that are just areas where the herd is in excellent shape and the deer have not been over hunted and they are managed to grow big narly bucks. They practice QDM on those ranches and let 'em go so they can grow and boom, there ya have it, a paradise for deer hunters. And soooo many on this forum and across the country get their panties in a bind when you mention QDM but yet they are the ones who buy these videos and nut all over themselves when Bill or the boys have a monster coming in and then they get jealous because they don't have ground like that to hunt and figure it just must all be staged and the deer must be in fences and there is no way they will ever have that experience on the ground they hunt and so then they go out to their treestand and since they are so disgruntled shoot the first thing they see.

RE: I AM SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT ONCE AND FOR ALL!
I'm new to Bowhunting and there is one thing that has bothered me about some of the videos that I have seen.
Many of you talk about the arrow making a complete pass-through at up to 30 yards.... & substantial penetration with some of the arrow sitcking out at up to or over 50 yards. What I have yet to hear about on this board are the time that I have seen on the videos where better than 80% of the arrow is sticking out of the deer (on the side where the arrow hit). You see the animal launch itself into the distance with the arrow shaft and fletching bouncing & waving goodbye to the camera. You never see them tracking the deer - even in the aforementioned situation. Does the arrow really penetrate engugh to make a kill, or is there someone else helping out with the kill? I understand that they have all sorts of producers and employees to track the animal down, but it just doesn't seem that the arrow penetrated far enough to have killed the animal. Just an observance & point of curiosity. No flames please - I leave that pleasure for the wife.....<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> "It's not the kill, it's the adventure and challenge! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>" |

RE: I AM SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT ONCE AND FOR ALL!
Well said Shortdraw, Bill and the boys never claim to be the world's greatest hunters, only very successful video makers, which they are. No, you're not going to learn anything new watching them, but they're not trying to teach, they're trying to make an enjoyable video, so we can see these huge bucks that we see once in a blue moon in our hunting areas. Give the guy a break, I never once heard any of them say "we are great hunters", they don't claim to be.
I would like them to say how far the deer travels after the shot, it's one thing that could be educational, I always wonder, "how far did that one go hit there..." Good videos, non stop action, and if you're buying them to learn how to hunt, well, ain't no video in the world gonna teach you that. "In heaven, even the fish have antlers" |

Wolfen, as good as you are at figuring out and explaining why other hunters do what they do, you should become a psychologist. Or maybe even a hyponotist..."you must shoot monster bucks, you must shoot monster bucks", "let em go so he can grow, let em go so he can grow". <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
