Climbing Tree Stands for tall hunters ?
#1
Which climbing tree stands do you tall guys prefer ?
I notice, Tree Lounge is the only stand that addresses this issue.
They have an extended model specifically suited for hunters 6'2" and over.
I'm only 6'2" but, I've noticed, many stands I've sit in feel cramped and don't have near enough leg room for me.
I know, you can just leave the foot platform on some stands at a certain level to adjust for the downward leg room.
But I'm talking here about the straight out position where your feet contact a padded foot rest or bar.
Most feel too short for me except the extended Tree Lounge.
Frank, Matt,
I remember, you guys are pretty tall.
How do you like the leg room of your current stands ?
Any other tall guys out there have any suggestions ?
Thanks!
Sag.

My father is 6'1" and uses the Summit Cobra and never shuts up about how much he loves it. With a climbing stand, it doesn't matter how tall you are I thought. You set the desired height. Except for the tree lounge I guess. And that’s why they address the issue I suppose.

Sag,
I'm 6'3" and have been quite comfortable in my Summits, but over the long haul (6+ hours on stand) I found it necessary to stretch the feet out a bit to relieve the tension of sitting for so long.
Before, I would just let my feet dangle out in space which put a little stress on the knees and did little for comfort other than stretching the muscles......To combat this, this season I installed the Footrest kit on my Goliath to allow me to stretch out a bit AND take away the pressure.
It's going to be a godsend for long sits.
Summit uses the same basic platform on all of their models, but the "Revolution" might be worth a look if you really want to kick back......looks like you can get your feet out there pretty good and lounge, and it looks pretty out of the way for shooting a bow. Plus it has a lumbar support which helps with this laid back position.
Overall I'm happy with the legroom on my stand, and the footrest will allow me the option of comfortably sprawling out a bit. I'd say it's a must for long legged hunters.
I'm not sure how much more front legroom the competition has (API Ol'Man etc), but if it's any, I doubt its very much.......I've been in all of them and the platforms have been pretty similar in dimensions and feel.
Frank could probably give you even better insight as he's like 8ft tall or so. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

thanks for your concern for the big guys. i am 6'6" and approx 300lbs i cannot find a stand that is comfortable for the long run that is why i have begun building my own. larger platforms, taller seats, larger seat cushions. now at least i can sit above my knees.
thanks for the concern

Sag.,
I am somewhere between 6'3"-6"4" and 230-240 lbs. I have no problem with the API Bowhunter since it is a typical two piece climber. Seat height is not an issue as it can basically be determined by you once you reach the desired level in the tree. The foot platform length is somewhere around 29 inches long and that seems to suit me just fine. You can buy the obtional footrest for it but I never saw the need to.
You did ask about stands but you didn't specify whether you were just talking about climbing stands or hang-ons as well. In case you are interested I picked up one of the Cabelas Trophy Lite 2 hang-on stands last year to replace an older model Trophy Lite. It is rated to 275 lbs with a 25 inch x 24 inch platform. The seat height is around 22 inches if I remember correctly. Pretty roomy and since it only weighs 10 lbs it is a breeze to carry and setup.
Hope this helps.

Frank,
What do you mean, I didn't specify climbing or lock on tree stands ?
Read the title of my topic again.
Sounds like you're not getting enough rest these days, lol.
Thanks for your reply!
You too, Matt.
And everyone else.

les1cam,
Yes, I own the original Doc's Recliner but it weighs 38lbs and I'm looking for something lighter.
I wonder if Doc's is still in business ?
Their website has been down for awhile.
