Bwood.I know what you mean, you see I only take 1 sometimes 2 deer.West Virginia allows a hunter to kill 7 or 8 deer, and a lot of the ignorant hillbillys feel bad if they don't.I've heard of familys killing 30 deer a season. Now the same game hogs are crying about sunday hunting being voted down.Who I really blame is the Game Commission in Charleston for these liberal seasons and limits. These same people don't even bother checking deer in.

The last two year's I have been very fortunate. I have gotten 3 deer each year. I only was able to hunt 1 week 2 years ago and got to get out 2 weeks last year. This year I will probably take at least that many, but that is only because I hunt in NJ and you have to shoot a doe before you can take a buck. We donate a lot of venison to the hungry each year which makes me feel good. Good luck this year.

cball...I know exactly what you are talking about. I've hunted in WV for a long time, and in the area I hunt, I know alot of folks. I'd be willing to bet that NO MORE than 25% of the deer killed are checked in...and that might be a high estimate. No one checks their deer, and most shoot more than they are allowed. Yes... then they complain that there aren't any "big" bucks around...but they just shot 6... 1.5 year olds this season. Don't make no sense to me. Of couse with almost no game wardens, hardly anyone ever gets caught.
Me personally, I usually take anywhere from 3-6 deer each season between WV and VA. I could shoot more, but I really only shoot what I will eat. Occasionally I'll give one or two away to friends that don't hunt, but we ususally eat at least 3 ourselves.
Brian, is that a law in NJ, or just self a imposed rule? I wish the states that I hunt would go to that rule. That would be great.

WV Hunter, it depends on what zone you hunt in, but for a lot of the zones you have to shoot an antlerless deer first. It's called "earn a buck" in New Jersey. I agree it is a great rule. The only problem is some guys shoot fawns and button bucks to fill the requirement. It has definitely had an impact though. One of the areas I hunt we have been working hard to bring the buck to doe ratio closer and this year we have 6 very respectable 8 points and a 6 point with an 18 inch spread running around. A few years ago they would have been small 8s or 6s and scrawny as hell.

Well this is the 5 year I have been hunting at all and to tell the truth I have only shot at one deer and it was with a bow. Hit it in the back bone and droped it where it was could not ask for anything better. Was not much to brag about but I thought it was.

On my lows only about two.usually five to six is a fair average. We eat venison on a regular basis.Over the years I have saved a lot of money by not buying beef very often.

Sorry for any misunderstanding. The "you make me sick" where I live transates into "I'm so jealous I don't know what to say". I would love to be in an area where I could be out more of the year. Not because I want to kill alot. I just don't want to be done for the year after the first one.
I was in no way trying to criticize(sp) others for taking several deer.

I usually take two a year with either bow or muzzleloader.
That's as much as we eat. I have a life license, so if someone wants an extra deer, I have taken some for them. I pass on a lot of does that would be easy shots, so I guess I have the opportunity to take a lot of deer. I only take easy bow shots. Good luck in the deer woods.
