While out hunting yesterday, I found a scrape that had recently been freshened . It was being used heavily during the rut, but that's been over for, oh, about a month or so by now. I mean, here in MO, the bucks will start loosing their antlers like any day now.....It had fresh tracks, I could see where he had scraped the dirt, all fresh, and I smelled it before I saw it.
Doesn't this seem awfully late in the year?

I found some sililar scrapes in Andrew County (MO) this weekend. Must be post/late rut activity.

I had a buck chasing a doe around me for 10 minutes on 12/26/04. I killed one chasing a doe on Jan. 8 th one time. The peek breeding date for my area as caluclated by our game and fish div. is normally the 3rd week of Nov. So it definitely happens.

A few years back we had a late doe season here and on the same day my buddy shot a buck that had dropped both of his antlers and I shot a doe that was being heavily chased at the time I shot her. This was the last week of January. We also observed bucks in bachlor groups on that same day. There is no set time for all rut activity, just peaks and valleys. This year I have found a shed on 12-26-04 and last weekend I saw a scrape in the same gerneral area that was recently worked. It happens.
