One of my friends was out walking a drainage ditch yesterday when he jumped a buck. The buck was pretty upset and making threatening displays to my friend. As my friend continued to walk the ditch the buck kept 50 feet in front of him the entire length of the ditch, sometimes walking backwards, sometimes walking towards him, all the while he was grunting and threatening to charge.

I think my friend was lucky he wasn't attacked.

Last year at this time a buck saw his reflection in the window of my uncles van, parked in his driveway in the middle of town. The buck charged the van and left deep scratches all down the side of the van. When my uncle came out to see what happened it scared the buck. The buck charged towards my uncle, saw his own reflection in the living room window, and made an instant decision to charge it instead. He didn't break the window fortunately but he left nose prints on it that streaked up 7 feet high and kick marks all down the siding.

Bucks do strange things this time of year indeed.
