What a difference quality LAND makes to hunting

Yes good post and land does make a huge difference. Not only the lack of pressure on the land but the amount of cover and food it has to keep large amounts of quality deer on the property.

I couldn't agree more. I have such a honey hole this year, for the 1st time. I have always had some lands I could hunt and shot some OK bucks. But this place is the bomb! Maybe I'm not quite seeing your numbers, but seeing 2-4 deer a night and as many as 9. Plus several decent bucks and 1 oh-my-goodness-type buck. Supposedly there are 4 of us with permission to hunt this particular property but i'm yet to see anyone else.
The funny thing is it's a farm in the burbs and I can see the 1/2 million dollar and up homes from my stand, as the trees lose more leaves.

What you are saying is exactly why I now want to stay in Nebraska instead of moving back to Pennsylvania where my folks and sisters live (2 of the 4, anyway). For the first five years that we lived here, before I got back into hunting, I longed to get back to the east coast and family. Then three years ago I started hunting on my property and now also on a friend's farm. Like you do now, Atlasman, I see deer every time I go out. Now I tell my wife that not only am I content living here, but I don't want to move back to PA. Not because there aren't deer there, all the PA hunters on this board are proving that there are, but because I have never seen the number or size of deer there that I see here in Nebraska. Of course, she laughs at me and says that deer hunting is thicker than blood in my life. I told her it's my blood that made me a deer hunter. My dad understands.
Location, Location, Location!!!
Badatta, I hunt the burbs as well. I love it. Some people just don't realize the wealth of big bucks that have adapted and now hide safely (so they think
) in the small woodlots of the burbs. That's how they got big, I guess. No one hunted them, until now.

Ok a question for you
You have also said for years there aren't any good bucks in your area. That your buck from last year was the biggest locals saw in years.

State land buck.............the odds of a buck reaching his size in the slaughter fields of public land are about as good as the lottery.
So when you say "area" you have to remember the place I am in now is not in the "area" I usually am talking about.
So here is my question.
Are you conceding to the fact there has been good bucks in your area all along? And you just never found them till now???

Not at all.
It has nothing to do with "finding" them. It's not like I am in the same place I always have hunted and only now have stumbled onto the deer. I am on a private farm with no hunting pressure. It is a totally different world.............and every buck I have seen would not qualify as "good" if I am guessing your standards correctly. Mostly 1 1/2 yr old 4 and 6 pt. The farmer says the biggest deer anyone ever took in the area is a 9 ptr about 6 years ago. There are neighbors on 3 sides and a road on the 4th and he says the gun hunters kill anything they see so while their are plenty of deer so far I really don't expect to see any big brutes.
If this land was managed for big boys they would be all over the place. However, that doesn't seem to be high on anyones priority list around there...........mine included.
I am just happy to have a place where I know their are deer and I can go sit in my stand in peace and quiet without battling 5 other trucks full of guys chasing after 1 deer per sq mile.

I wouldn't consider 1 hour your "area" either. Lots can change in that distance.
I am also glad for you to have a good non pressure place to hunt, not the public battlefields.
Was the buck you shot this year from this farm? If I haven't said it already congrats. Hope to see you fill that second tag on a "good" buck if the oppertunity arises. Good luck.

I found a honey hole, I'm just not allowed to hunt it.
I've tried everything, the farmer doesn't hunt or doesn't have any family members who hunt, he just doesnt want people hunting. I've already spotted 3 150"+ bucks in his field not to mention the other 20 legal bucks (4 pts to a side to be legal here). I don't know what do to, seeing those bucks give me a real bad itch to sneak in and do something that I'm not allowed to be doing.

We have already offered him meat from our deer (he declined) and we seem to be hitting if off pretty well. I think he is very happy to see a couple responsible young guys he can trust on his land to do the right thing..........and kill some of those deer eating his corn!!! We are gonna send him a gift card for dinner for Christmas with a thank you card. If I lost this place I think I would cry and I am not joking at all.

That's the exact reason why you can't judge a hunter and his knowledge of deer hunting by what he has on the wall.

Amen.
I could take anyone to this place and put them in a spot that if they sat for a couple days they would have a kill chance no doubt..........and when they didn't have a kill chance they would at least see deer. I could have killed about a dozen times by now..........and I am the exact same guy who couldn't even see a deer all last year and 5 times out other places this year. Doesn't take long to figure out that it is the land and not the hunter that will determine how many deer you see. (The hunter part will determine how many deer you KILL of those that you see)
