Default Archery Experience Helps in Non-hunting Situation

Today I used my archery and range finding experience to help me win a pumpkin for my family. We took the family to a local farm for the traditional hayride, corn maze, petting zoo, cider and fresh donuts, etc… They had a contest where you had to shoot apples out of a giant slingshot. At about 75 yards, they had a hanging trashcan lid and a bathtub. If you hit the trashcan lid, you got a small pumpkin. If you could land the apple in the bathtub, you won a giant pumpkin. I loaded the apple into the cloth pocket and pulled back on the rubber bands. When the tension felt right, I picked a spot on the ground to use as a reference to judge how far to pull back. I released and the apple blew apart a mere foot to the right of the bathtub – distance was perfect. I then used that spot on the ground for my “75 yard pin”. I just adjusted the angle and walked the apples over to the left. Out of six apples, one hit the side of the bathtub and one went in – winning me the giant pumpkin. Nobody else was doing it this way. They were just lobbing them out there - hoping to get lucky. I credit my experience with shooting and hunting for this small triumph.

Already used my buck tag on October 2nd. The pumpkin did have a nice, heavy stem. Probably a mature pumpkin.

That's too funny. Congrats on the giant pumpkin although I believe that the smaller pumpkins taste better

Where's Big John, we're going from huntin tomatos to huntin pumpkins.

Good Story Barnes, was that local? I'd like to think that archery and bowhunting helps me in every aspect of my life, it somewhat defines who I am.

You did good for the kids, family and fellow bowhunters.

The farm was in Montgomery County. It was a blast shooting those apples off. I might just have to get one of those giant slingshots.
