Funny, the drag is a deer's best friend. Having to cart any deer out over a long distance means it better be a huge animal. I've changed my mind countless times to take a deer because I didn't want to drag it out. It really helps with being selective.

If I hunt around my house or in my neighborhood, I prefer to use my John Deere with the loader on.

I use a Suzuki Vinson 500 automatic.
Never had a problem hauling one out.
