I'm not gonna post every time I just see a deer but I don't think I've ever had a shot opportunity on opening day.
The Hurricane weather subsidded a little and it was very overcast with no rain. I hit my stand next to this giant white oak. Get up, attach my saftey harness and "Snort" two deer take off from 15 yards away. Don't know if they were bedded there or walked up on me. The woods were so quite because of the wet ground, it was awesome.
About an hour later I hear something and look behind me. I see a tail flickering. Deer!!!!! and they're moving away......nope, they're headed my way. 3 bucks came by at 20 yards. A spike, a decent 6,7 or 8, couldn't tell as he stayed in the thicke stuff and then a buck with one really nice rack on one side and a spike on the other (some of you may have remembered me yappin' about him early in the summer, he's not as big as I originally thought, velvet will do that I guess). Anyway, rightt after that 2 more bucks come by at about 30 yards, a spike and a fork horn.
So opening day and I have 5 bucks within range. Can't beat that, even if none of them were shooters. They feed on a differnt oak then the one I was hunting so I'm gonna take my climber next time I hunt there and hunt that oak.
Just wanted to share.

That's a great way to open the season. Seeing deer within range always makes me giddy
. There is also no better feeling then letting a deer walk because it wasn't the right one for you. Hopefully the rest of the season will be as eventfull as the opener. And hopefully you buck will show you his vitals

I had a good opener too. It was rainy, but warm enough that I didn't even use the porta-roof I had with me. The morning was very subdued and I only saw one doe that smelled me at 30 yards. The evening was more active. I saw 5 does and 2 or 3 bucks. The nicest buck-a decent 6 point--paraded back and forth broadside at 20 yards for quite some time. Good thing for him he doesn't meet my minimums!

I didn't get out in Md yesterday, but I just got a call from the home owner at a place I call the "playland". They had a dozen deer standing in the middle of their circle in the driveway. She wanted to know when I was going to come and kill them.
So many deer and so little time.

Yeah no kidding I was out in there...when I left it wasn't raining about 30 into the hunt it started...luckly I had my porta roof so I was good to go. It was a pretty productive hunt I saw 7 deer.
