I am curious about how far you guys walk to get to your treestand. I am asking this because I setup on new land this year and it is like a mile walk to my treestand....am I crazy or do other people walk this far???

I walk a mile and a half to one of my stands int he darkness loaded down with the portable and all my gear. Getting out there is a must on state game lands in my experience.

I've got one thats only 50 yards or so off the road in a private pine thicket. I've also got a few areas that are 3 miles into the woods. But most are in between: usually about 300 yards or so.

Most of my stands are just a few hundred yards away from where I park. Farthest I walk is about 1 mile.

I hunt a lot on State land in the catskills of New York and to get away from the out of shape guys who go in late and come out early and who can realy foul up your day i try to put my stands at least a half mile off of the road preety much stright up the side of teh mountain. To tell you the truth i cannot understand how ome of you guys can carry stands that weigh in the 20 lb + range. I use the loggy bayou climber without the climbing aid and it comes in at about 11 lbs what a savior that is on your back at the end of the day...gotta go in early climb high and stay allllllll day.

If I walked a mile in off the road I'd probably cross 1-2 other roads. Most of my stands are a quarter mile or less off the roads.
