I also hunt State Gamelands and most locations are 1/2 mile to over a mile. The walk in and out is not so bad but bringing that buck out isn't to much fun. You are not allowed 4 wheelers which would be hard to get in anyway. So after the fun is over it's all work.

I've got stands all over, from about 50 yards from the house to some are 5 or 6 miles away but I hardly ever walk more than a half mile to get to the first one I'm going to hunt.
You'd be surprised how a GPS or a map will shrink some of these mile walks all the way down to about 1300 feet. By the same inverse rule of proportion a 150 pounds of dead weight will expand that 1300 feet to about 2 or 3 miles.

WOW! You lucky dogs with the 100-300 yard walks! As the crow flies you could get to all of my stands in that distance, but if you've been in Dunn County Wisconsin you know it's billy goat country meaning all up and down. I have at least 2 stands that are an hour walk and trust me they are worth the time! Only 17 more days!

Basically walk where I need to in order to find the best case scenerio. I'm a 100% public land hunter and sometimes find myself walking many different distances from the parking lot. You would be surprised about the amount of deer traffic 100-150 yds from the truck! On avg I would have to say I hike 1/2 - 1 mile to a stand site, humping in what I need for the day.
