oh, my idea for stand theft. put up a couple lengths of climbing sticks, then use the screw in steps for the rest. Attach the chain on stand to the tree using a padlock. when I leave I take the 8' section of climbing sticks with me. It won't stop them from stealing my stand, but it will slow them down a bit.

I usually hunt on the ground. I have had old lawn chairs that I had set up on my own ground stolen before. They thing were totally worthless, but served the purpose while I hunted in my groundblind. Some people will steal anything.

Theft reports involving hunting fry my beans... and these people call themselves hunters. I agree that making it harder for those who stoop so low is the way to go, but if they really want it, they're gonna get it.

I've often thought of how to deter others from this type of theft and came up with this technique. Wait for ol' sticky fingers to climb down with your stand in hand... untill he reaches the base of the tree that is. FfffFfFfFffppppt!!!! Pin him there with an arrow. Then, place a little sign on his coat that reads, "Stand Thief Apprehension Squad - Serving Legit Hunters Everywhere." Man, now that would send a signal wouldn't it? LOL.

The bad thing is you'll have to relocate to a differnet area in a day or so, unless it's gonna stay real real cold out for a while. [:-]

Ok ok... you all know I'm kidding... please don't try this at home - or in the woods for that matter. I'm just venting. [&:]

Some a$$ cut down the tree that my stand was in. I got it back and here's the story: He got really pi$$ed when he went to climb up and there were no bottom steps. Then he went home and got a ladder. Was even more pi$$ed when he finally got up to the stand to find a huge chain and lock on it. He went home for his chainsaw. My stand survived the fall and he survived as a result. Bottom line: if they want it, they will get it.

You guys are going to think I am nuts to spend this kind of $$$ on a lock and chain but we had 5 stands stolen last year alone and this will at least allow me to leave one up and rotate the two stands I have left. This is what people in NYC use to lock up motorcycles and bicycles. You can't cut through it and it comes with insurance if you lose something due to theft.

locks are not made to keep the regular thief out.it is made to keep the honest person honest.
all of our trucks at the power co has bolt cutters and they all will cut cable.not as easy as chain ot the lock itslef, but with a little work the do cut the cables.

I wonder if you could conceal a game cam somewhere and get the bastard's picture that's stealling your stand. Then you can knock on his door a few days later and get your blind back, or take it out of his a$$.

I hate thieves and I'm not opposed to whoopin' thier butts!
