Why are you guys going at it when neither one of you has even tried to hunt the other man's style??? What the heck is all the Private Land, Public Land BS. Private or Public that has nothing to do with it: the mosquitos aren't thicker one or the other, it's not any colder on one or the other, and I guarantee you that you've got the same idiotic hunters on both.

I'm originally from Michigan and have hunted ever since I was old enough to hold a bow. When I was 19 I spent two years in Dallas, TX. Luckily, I had an uncle that had a lease with three other guys about two and a half hours west of Dallas. I spent four or five weekends out there with him hunting. The first weekend I was there, we saw a total of 13 different bucks anywhere from 70 yards out to 400 yards. I shot a large 3 1/2 y/o 9 point that probably scored somewhere near 140 to 145 the last night of the weekend hunt. Yes, the deer was standing at a feeder and yes, the deer was about 250 yards away. We were sitting in a tripod and my uncle told me it was big enough to shoot if I wanted. I stuck the rifle out the window and took the shot. After it was over, my uncle looked at me and was thrilled. I just kind of sat there...I couldn't believe it was over. My heart never once sped up or skipped a beat. To me, that wasn't hunting. At least not the way I was used to.
The year after I returned to Michigan, my uncle joined me on a hunt. Yeh, know it's kind of funny. He felt the same way in Michigan that I did in Texas.

Conclusion....It's whatever you're use to. If either one of you guys grew up in the same place as the other, you guys would be agreeing. Since we're all sportsman and we respect other sportsman, quit the bs and go on to another posting.

i just got back from michigan last weekend. they use feeders there also. they also use food plots there just like texas.they have land more condusive to growing thing than texas. i saw soybean fields everywhere thet were green and plush. guess what, there was a feeder on the edge of the field. i wish texas could grow things like that here but rock and cactus are not condusive to growing things. therefore you have to offer alternate food sources. i hunt the same direction you talk about and it is all 1 buck counties.where in the world did you see that many deer? what was the county?

Sum, you have completely and entirely missed the point. My original posting was about my concern for that peticular style of hunting, and the ammunition that it gives to anti's, but more importantly to the way it looks to people who don't hunt. It makes all of us look bad. At some point it is alright to step up and disagree or call out poor sportmanship. Admittingly, I have digressed with the whole TX thing. We have, however, established the TX doesn't like us "out west" or "up north" or liberals, public land hunters, elk hunters, old people, dep, and traditional bowhunters. Need I say more?

I don't have a clue but I can definitely find out. I do know it was almost straight West of Dallas. It will take me a day or two to get a hold of my uncle but I will definitely do so. Oh, and just to let you know. In Michigan we have three different zones. I live in the south zone where hunting over a feeder or food "pile" (like apples or sugar beats) is illegal. But you are right, we have the farmland and the hardwoods that produce corn, soybeans and acorns. About the only thing I saw in the part of Texas I hunted was cactus berries and the corn spread by the feeders.

Hey muley69 finally got something right.

My original posting was about my concern for that peticular style of hunting, and the ammunition that it gives to anti's, but more importantly to the way it looks to people who don't hunt
Thats just plain stupid. First off, antis dont care how you hunt weather it be from the bed of a ford f-250 or climbing the rocky mountians in a lion cloth. The antis want all hunting to end, it dosent matter what kind. And besides, piss on the antis. You give them an inch they take a mile, just look at CA. And secondly most people who dont hunt, arent going to be watching a hunting show on the outdoor channel.

the antis first attack those hunters that show poor ethics. they then try to say that all hunters are that way.hunting out of the back of a truck is like pouring gas on a fire. you need to wake up to reality

I was just looking at a map on mapquest to see if any of the towns rang a bell. Mineral Wells rings a bell but I may have just driven through it. I know I came into a small town and then turned and went northwest for about 20 mins. Does minerals wells have a stop light with a gas station on the south east corner?
