Because I have more free time than my friend(s) or family members, I have hunted alone many times. However, doing so is not my preference. Nothing better that meeting your hunting partner at the tree line at sundown, exchanging notes, and sipping a hot cup of coffee.
Also makes things easier when you have to track and carry one out. |

must be one of those switch hitters I guess |

I used to hunt alot with a friend of mine but he moved away so i got used to hunting alone and like it that way. No need to worry what someone else is doing plus i got the woods to myself.

I hunt with my brothers and dad almost every time that I go. I wouldn't trade that for the world. I don't take hunting all that serious that I have to be completely alone I like the comradery

I love hunting with a group of guys as long as we're spread out enough to leave each other alone. But the guys I hunt with are hillarious. I also love to occasionally hunt while my friend videos it or vice versa. It's fun to share the moments with somebody.

It depends on what type of hunting I am doing. For bowhuntimg elk sometimes its best to be alone, and sometimes its best to team up. For calling elk during the rut, it works best to team up, one shooter and one or two callers positioned 70 to 100 yards behind the shooter. In early season, pre-rut, calls still work and are very effective. But in early season, I have had best succcess hunting/calling alone. For mule deer they only way to bowhunt is alone. When hunting alone, I still have hunting partners that I see in camp but when out hunting we might be miles apart.

I love to deer hunt by myself and then meet everyone back at camp to swap stories. I used to be in a gun camp where we just drove the trucks up to a corner fence post and stood there all day. It would be 2 to 6 guys and that was the hunt. Wait for a deer to come into the field. First guy to see it (and call it) would get first shot. If he missed everyone would shoot until someone hit it. Then it was that persons deer.
It got to be difficult when my son could hunt. He dropped a nice 10 pointer at 220 yards with a 7mm rem mag and 12 power scope using a fence post for a rest. My (then) buddy shot at the same time using an old 30-30 lever action with iron sites and claimed it was his deer. The guy had cateracts and admitted he couldn't even see the sites. Well after he hacked the rack all up he did give it to my son but still claims he thinks he shot it. Now we don't hunt (on stand) together for anything with anyone. |
RE: How many of you like total solitude vs. being with buddies?
I spend 95% of my time bowhunting solo. I have friends who bowhunt, but none of them are willing to even come close to spending the time that I do scouting, cutting trails, and shooting lanes from March to the opening of the season. Rifle season is different. I sit with my son and video his hunt.

I hunt alone and that is the way I like it. When I go out, I don't want to see any one else.
