If you go to Nugents web site the"Nuge " posted a thread"you wanna see a 75 yard heart shot?"

One of his comments:
the 75 yd elongated Yingness of it all was merely a parlayance of mystical subsonic flingability of the Great Spirit & mystical flight of my beloved arrow. silence but deadly Tedly. the ultimate fear factor! the thump of course was the culmination of my sacred shopping for straps. The beast has landed. twice tonite.
He's not too full of himself is he?

This is how Uncle Ted describes the hunt in his article.

In one smooth ballet of archery motion, I swung on the massive shoulder of this new bull, said my prayer for the wildthings just as his huge foreleg stretched ahead, and in an instant my all-white arrow covered the 35 yards straight into his upper leg on a direct path to his pumpstation. I have never heard such a sharp WHACK in all my WhackMaster life, and the monster bull slammed to the ground like he was pole axed by a .460 Weatherby Magnum! It was stunning to say the least.

The instantaneous dirtdive put him nose first into a heap in the frosty Texas puckerbrush of bluestem grasses and scrubby vegetation. It was awe-inspiring. On video you will see how he wildly bulldozed himself for 40 yards with only his hind legs driving him on. At the same moment, he stood back up at 70-plus long yards out, and my second white arrow was already on its way, connecting on video for the whole world to see. It hit in the exact same spot as the first arrow, only on the left side this time.

Once again, the 500-grain arrow knocked him off his feet, the razorsharp Magnus four-blade Stinger broadhead slicing clean through the rock like leg bone, penetrating the heavy chest and cutting straight into the beast's heart from the opposite side. WOW! Ronnie and I were dumbfounded and stared silently at the now quiet brushline of brambles whence the beast had vanished from.

We rejoiced a short while later at sharing a most moving moment in time. Recovering and handling the animal on film had a life of its own, certainly solemn. Examining the two arrow hits was something we will never forget, and we remain humbled by the entire episode. I'm sure that everyone who sees this on TV or tape will feel the same awe we did right then and there. There are many lessons to be learned with each hunt and particularly with each kill.

I guess he could have hit it where ever he wanted, just would have had to cahse it around the enclosure. Can you feel it,can you feel the spirit.

Ted usually makes really good hits, i guess everyone has their bad days even the whackmaster. He is still a big hero of mine though, and love him or hate him he does try to help out the hunting cause. A friend of mine at work spent a few hours talking to him at a big NRA banquet and Ted invited him and his dad to go hunting in Africa with him, that would be so cool. Just wish there was more hunting and less other stuff on his show.

If he didn't talk like that he be just another rich, boring, deer hunting schlub! It's his "schtick" and he plays it up. Hell, if I had to talk like that to keep making money, I'd do it to!

His show isn't programmed into my Tivo, but I do get a chance to check him out from time to time. He is definitely unique. He makes me laugh.
Whether you like him or not he's one hell of an ally to have lobbying congress, fighting to protect our hunting rights!!!

I don't know why people always say its low if it hits in the heart region. An arrow doesn't have to hit right in the middle to be fatal.

I guess it's because that's not the "meat" of the kill zone... The bottom of the chest isn't far away from the heart, so if you aim for the boiler room, you're much better off than aiming for the heart.

. Too bad he didn't take that opportunity to emphasis or admit that everyone misses the mark sometimes, but you need to make sure you do everything you can to ethically harvest the animal.

Your absolutely right. Although Ted does more for hunting than probably anyone else in this country and although his tactics are sometimes extreme you have to respect the guy. He's in your face hunting, regardless of PC or what......but, he could at times tone it down and be Joe hunter.....I respect Ted to the utmost...but not a big fan of his show...to much pen shot animals on the YO ranch......

Jimbo if you hit low on a heart shot you miss and if you hit high you hit lung. If you aim dead center and hit high you can hit a deer high and just wound it. I would rather miss then wound.

Either shot is fine. No matter where you are aiming (heart, lung, etc.) you need to be accurate. Heart shots are just fine. I personally prefer lung shots with a bow because I want to do my best to avoid hitting the shoulder.
