ok, both shots to the leg bone(one on either side), maybe 2" too far forward. but he got enough penetration and did recover it. whew

I'll bet he makes a 70 yard heart shot!

TWO BAD HITS! Ted's usualy a good shot. Especialy since he has them walk right up and say "SHOOT ME SHOOT ME!!!"
Please do elaborate.... what went wrong and what happened?

George, I flipped to Spirit of the Wild and saw the left side shoulder hit. Was that the first shot or the second? Never did see the recovery because I was bouncing around between that and the pre-season Ravens game.

his 1st shot was 30 yds broadise to the right shoulder bone. the elk started to run and it looked like the arrow just fell out 5 yds later. the elk stopped and you could see a little blood (not much at all) coming from the hit. it turned around and stopped (this was at 60 yds) and he put another in the opposite shoulder bone. ted found the 1st arrow after the commercial and it has 8" broken off, so it got alot more penetration than i looked on camera. after the recovery he said both sides penetrated. i know he shoots a light poundage bow. seeing those 2 hits made me cringe, but he sure came though. thats why he gets the big $$$:D

Maybe they edited the part when the gun went off to finish the job. I'm not impressed with his videos...but I like "Fred Bear".

I saw the show, he hit low and forward with the 1st shot. Real time watching it didn't look like it went in far at all. He put another shot in just about the same area from 70 some yards away on the opposite side. It was enough to take the bull down. He did what he needed to get a good outcome of a not so perfect situation.

I just called my wife and told her about the discussion on the board. I bet her last night that there would be debate about the shot placement and penetration of the elk's leg bone. I didn't agree with his thinking that 8 " of arrow was enough to get to the elk's pump station. I was very surprised with his shot, usually he is right on the mark. Too bad he didn't take that opportunity to emphasis or admit that everyone misses the mark sometimes, but you need to make sure you do everything you can to ethically harvest the animal.

Gee, I guess I saw that differently. Yes the first shot was forward a little, but like he said (and it is true), that is where the exactly where heart is. A couple inches back, and he would have had an unobstructed shot to the heart. At first I didn't think he got good penetration, but on the replay, you could see the arrow snap when the Elk stumbled. He got enough to hit heart IMO on the first shot.
The second shot was at 75 yards. again, he went though the shoulder. I don't know if he got enough penetration on that one though.

Would I purposely shoot where Ted put the arrow? No.

Jeez, I'm defending Ted now.......

Last word, I still don't totally understand why Ted always seems to take heart shots. Especially when there is so much more to aim at with the lungs.
