TAKE HIM. I WENT ON MY FIRST MOOSE HUNT IN NEWFOUNDLAND WHEN I WAS 13. NOT OLD ENOUGH TO "HUNT" BY LAW BUT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO MY DAD THAT I START LEARNING WHAT I NEEDED EARLY. MOST OF MY FOND MEMORIES AS A CHILD ARE OF THE GREAT TIMES FISHING AND HUNTING WITH MY DAD. IT IS GREAT THAT YOU ARE TAKING HIM.

TAKE HIM HUNTING! THAT WOULD BE THE DAY ANYONE WOULD INTERFERE WITH ME TAKING MY SON HUNTING. YOUR BOY IS DEFINITELY OLD ENOUGH. I TOOK MY SON HUNTING LAST YEAR, HIS FIRST YEAR. HE WAS ONLY 12 AND I WAS PROUD OF THE WAY HE HANDLED HIMSELF. TO TOP IT OFF HE ALSO SHOT HIS FIRST DEER. YOU WILL NEVER EXPERIENCE SUCH PRIDE IN YOUR LIFE AS HAVING YOUR SON TELL YOU HE GOT ONE AND SEEING THE LOOK ON HIS FACE.

My children, now 15 and almost 11, have been going with me for years as observers. My daughter took her Hunter's Safety Course at 10 and her first deer at 11. My son took his HSC at age 9 and his first deer last fall at age 10.

It costs me in various ways to "accomodate" them; but, I get it back tenfold. One of the greatest pleasures is to be there when they accomplish things and being able to teach them about the great outdoors and the quality of the hunt.

They are as much my hunting "buddies" as Davidmil and Will. The neat thing is that Davidmil and Will get just as much enjoyment out of them as I do and I commend them for that.

Len, as I said before, I can't wait for my 5 yr old son to hunt with me. He has a bow now and we have a ball shooting in the backyard as well as the range. He has gone with me scouting. You're very lucky to have partners who don't feel your kids are a burden. I guess I'd just take my son if people I hunted with previously objected. They would get over it. I know I would. Good luck and good hunting with your kids and friends.

Phil.

Al my freind: I am so sorry I missed this thread the first time it appeared. Since meeting you 2 years ago and hunting with you last year I think you know how I feel about this. You, your son, and nephew are all welcome to stay and hunt with me in my cabin when ever you like. To me nothing can compare to the bond created between father and child through experiences like we shared. If I can be of any help when we hunt together again this fall you can count on me. You made me feel very welcomed when I was alone, and rest assured I would be honored to return the same to you and yours. And in 15 years or so when my newborn son joins us, I know you'll be there again. By then perhaps the boys will gut and drag the Bull for us.WUH.....Nub
