All other things being equal I will put my money on that guy vs. a finger shooter standing on a tree limb years ago shooting a slow, loud, unforgiving relic while trying to stand still because his feet are freezing and trying to guess how far that deer is away.
OOPS! Careful! There are a bunch of us out here that might give you one helluva an argument on that profile.

Don't you think you could plant one through the boiler room a lot easier with all the stuff I listed at your disposal??

Last season I had a mild confrontation with two "Gucci" armed
My recurve had camo limb covers, an adjustable sight, a recurve shelf rest, a pressure button, and a modern stabilizer.
Through the eyes of some trad hunters your setup would probably fall into the "gucci gear" category.

To answer your question Atlasman , we've already crossed the line. It's probably the main reason why bowhunters who started out with traditional gear are going full circle and returning to traditional gear.

I wonder if its supposed to be difficult, or where you draw the line on how difficult its supposed to be for it to be 'right'?
Yea, I used to fall into that mindset when I was younger. When I would talk about bowhunting it was like you had to make it sound impossible to non-hunters. Like you had virtually no chance to kill a deer so they wouldn't get upset. And if you told a hunting story you had to make it so the deer escaped harm. Remember the watered down hunting shows of years ago with their "no kill scene rule"? Well I don't water nuthin down cuz if you eat dinner don't tell me how I gotta be ata disadvantage when I go huntin'. Oh man, I'm ranting, somebody stop me!

Even with ALL of that stuff working to the hunter's advantage - it still doesn't automatically put that meat in your freezer or that mount on your wall. At the end of the day it all comes down to the hunter himself (or herself ). You can have the fastest bow in the world, the best scouting camera made, the most expensive scent-proof clothing on the market, and still come home empty handed. IMO all these new gadgets make good hunters better, but they don't make mediocre hunters or "weekend warriors" into top hunters.

Truthfully; not really. In fact, my recurves afford me some advantages over my compounds, and I have killed as many deer while on the ground as I have from a tree.

I'm all for equipment that will give me more close encounters without violating fair chase--climbing stands and ground blinds are mainly what i'm talking about.

Atlasman, I've been wondering the same thing for the past 10 years. Each time I've thought, "This is it! They can't get any stupider than this," I've been proven wrong. [&:]

I don't know where this runaway techie train is going to end. I just hope it's not a fatal wreck when it does. All I can only say for a fact is where I've chosen to jump off the train.

I just started wondering how much is enough and when will technology eliminate the challenges of deer hunting all together?
Everthing comes full circle eventually. Gadgets are mostly for younger guys or new to the sport. They want quick success and don't mind throwing money at it. As a guy gets older and has some success, he usually wants to start putting more challenge into it. I get way more out of bowhunting than rifle. I'm just getting into flintlock now for the challenge. When you finally get a real bruiser with the limitations you imposed on yourself, it makes the success so much sweeter, something you can look back on forever. Look at the big surge in Traditional bowhunting. I have a whole bunch of crap that I never carry. I'll give it to the young guys someday. Then they'll have something to play with when they're in the woods.

You are correct. However, how sad some must be when they discover that they spent a bunch of cash for something that does not put everything on autopilot and success still has the same requirements and the same odds.
