The old buckshot does not use the tension straps. Instead he has a strap for the platform and another for the top portion that you hook to the bar at and bring around on your side of the tree to keep it from slipping.

I hope it was a harness and not a belt. Dropping only a couple of feet will exert over 1300 pounds of pressure on you, and that will definitely jolt you a little. I took a tumble from 250' off a TV tower a few months ago, thankfully I was wearing a harness. Much like you, I took the spill because I got a little careless on that tower that day.
Glad everything is ok. Now, replace that harness, you can not tell if the threads were damaged on them.
