On average I would say about 15 to 22 feet, with about 18-20 being the most common. Some times you can't go higher, and there have been a few times I had to use all of my 30' bow rope just to get above the deer's eye level if I had to be at the bottom of a ridge, but was watching the top of the ridge.
I always try hard to get some background(leaves, branches, limbs) behind and/or above me when I'm in a tree. Got busted considerably less when I started doing that.

15'-22' is my comfort range. I really don't care for heights, but I force myself to get used to it. Once I'm all nestled into my climber for a few minutes, I'm OK. The part I hate is getting settled in(hanging gear, pulling up gun or bow, etc).

I am kinda like you duckbill, i am a bundle of nerves until i get the stand strapped tight, get all my gear arranged and sit down for 5 minutes to catch my breath, once i am settled i am ok. I can stand, turn and maneuver without any real difficulty
