Where I hunt you have to be 30+. If you are lower it's very hard to get the shot off. Too many eye balls around.

Depends on what the environment dictates. Normally between 15 and 25 feet. More in the shorter range in most of the spots I hunt with one or two up around 25 feet.

15-20 feet is fine. The target area gets much smaller the higher you go.

I used to need oxygen tanks at the heights I hunted!

Now, I look for trees that feature plenty of cover at my normal hunting height--about 18-20 feet.

It depends on the area I am hunting. I like to get about 15 - 20 feet but I have been around 35 feet. When you get that high it tests your wits. Throw some wind in there and you are moving like a mother. I have been scared numerous times and have fallen out once from 20. It was early and I screamed on the way down. I checked my self out and got right back up. I screamed so loud deer from ten miles knew where I was and I didnt see anything. My buddies love the long version to this story but this is a politaclly correct site. RD

23 feet seems to be my favorite height ( I judge with knots in my pull rope).

Davidmil, I know you were joking but just to be sure... The area of Texas I mainly hunt is tall pine trees and logging roads. Nothing like the Texas you see on TV. And the deer are smaller and scared[:'(].
