anyone just wasting the fronts?

Just this week, I cooked a shoulder roast. I put it in the oven, bones, sinew, tendons, and all. I did trim the fat though. Anyway, I put it in there after marinating for 2 or 3 days with my secret sauce, bacon and onions. Then slow cooked for several hours.........This was the BEST piece of meat I've ever eaten. I only found one small piece of grissel that I didn't eat. I will make roasts from every deer shoulder I ever get from now on. Try it, it's great!

txmarshmonkey,
Any chance you can share the secret sauce recipe.
I am always looking to find new ways to cook up the meat. If it must be kept a secret I do understand.[
] This will be my first year of making my own brats and sausage. Will be doing that next weekend.

i only keep the loins and hindquarters. if i only shot 2 deer per year-i would keep it all. but i usually get between 15-19 deer every year. i dont have room in freezer for shoulders or ribs. i givve them to a friend who feeds then to his dogs. he does the same. he usually gets 25-30 per year.

We used to eat the heart and liver but now we quit because of CWD. We arnt reall worried about it, but we just don't eat the heart and liver anymore. We also dont take the rib meat out. Usually a lot is blood shot and it will probably get you only one more hamburger. But we save as much as we can.
And maybe you wouldnt have to waste all that good meat on your dogs if you wernt so damn greedy and shot only the deer that you could eat. You are only helping anti-hunters when you give half of your deer to your dogs.

I'm sure O2 can defend him self but I will help it along. You see O2 hunts in one of those areas the deer are out of control. They are a nuisance, very distructive, disease threat and life threating. It's ethical to atempt to bring the deer back under control. I think its much better then sharp shooters. It's a cheaper solution and a lot less red tape.

I do not consider organ meat healthy and will not eat brain. Beyond that I will not wast one fiber of my venison. It is just too good to waste and I look on the waste of this precious meat to be disrespectful to the animal I have taken.
