Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
Just curious, who has never bought into this concept. I'll be the first to admit that I'm one.

RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
I haven't yet, mainly due to cost. If you could get a suit for $100, then I would try it.
I do plan on trying the contain line this season. |
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
I almost did now and then but never bought into it. Not saying it doens't work.....just hasn't sold me on the facts yet.;)

RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
No. I figure I did just fine without it the 35 years I'd hunted before it came out. I don't need it now.
|
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
Well, I am one of the ones who does buy it. In fact I am on my 3rd set. I believe in the stuff enough to drop $400 on the cabelas MT050 gore tex scent lok suit. I don't believe it is a cure all but I do believe it helps. I won't try to convince anyone that it works though. I just relay my postitve experiences with it.
The big mistake people make using it is they dont dress and un dress in the field and store it in an air tight container. They want to complain it don't work. If they stop and think for a minute and use a little common sence they might be able to figure it out. Another mistake people make is putting cover scents in the air tight tube with their scent lok. Really come on how smart of a move is that. The carbon adsorbs the scent of the cover leaving the suit useless for odor control untill reactivation. Just my 2 cents. |
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
I did buy it 5 years ago. I did have deer bedding below my treestand, etc. After 4 years, it seemed more of a hassel (more sweating) than it was worth. Last season I did'nt use it and had no ill effects. I attribute whatever success I had with it as learning to be a better hunter. JMO

RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
never bought into the whole idea. always tried to [play the wind].this last shotgun season was a real eye opener. my wife has been after me to teach her to hunt so i took her out , well she did everything your not supposed to do in the woods eating drinking talking laughing and we saw deer every time so now you can imagine how hard it is to take her with me . by the way the second outing with her we took a small buck

RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
I used it for the first time two years ago. I bow hunt moose and just had too many good ones use the wind to end our fun. After purchasing my scentlock stuff, I put it to the test. I had a few bulls go directly down wind of me and not run. I was also using cover scent too. It was strange to see a bull continue to sneak in even after getting into my wind line. Anyone who knows moose will realize that it is all over once their giant nostrils catch your scent. I never had any really good chances to test it last year as all of the moose came in up-wind. I shall definately put myself in a situation to test it out once again this fall. The suit will be three years old by then.

RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
Never have never will. My son bought me ascent lock head cover face mask that I wear
when it gets cold out. I put my cloths in a tub with earth scent waffers, works good, plus I always play the wind. |
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
I havnt used it yet, but like someone else said, its the cost, that keeps me away.
|
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
I've never used it. I don't think I have any reason to. I keep my clothes in scent free or plastic bags, use the sprays, cover scents, rubber boots and hang my stands high. It seems to work for me. If the cost wasn't far off from regular camo, I wouldn't shy away from it. Every little bit helps.
|
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
Have never spent a penny on any scent block clothing or sprays.
|
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
Never have and never will. I can't justify the cost of a few hundred dollars on a suit that is only effective for a limited ammount of time.
Not worth it, not even close. |
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
Everyone speaks of it as they must give their left hand and only child to buy it.
You can buy a liner suit for $100 bucks thru cabelas when they are on sale. Its really not that expensive. |
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
I haven't and I'm not planning on it.
|
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
Ok here is some compairson prices from cabelas.
MT050 gore tex pants. $139.95 W/O scent lok, $179.95 with MT050 gore tex jacket $149.95 W/O scent lok, $189.95 with So, actually its only $80 extra for the scent lok. It usually adds $70- $100 dollars to an outfit to add scent lok. |
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
Nope don't see the need for it either..
Past successful hunting seasons have not proven that I needed such designer clothing...[:'(] Bill |
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
I don't because I'd literally sweat to death wearing it during bow season. I hunt in Georgia now, but have hunted Florida most of my life. Both places are hot in bow season. I wear as little clothing as possible and use the wind.

RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
Hey buckey,
How do you like that MT050? I was thinking of picking up a pair of uninsulated "Whitetail Extreme" pants for turkey hunting this spring! Sick of my arse getting wet. I was wondering if they were bulky or heavy? Wish they had it in Obsession![:@] |
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
I have never bought any scentlok gear. I did buy one of those cheap charcoal army surplus suits but never wore it. It did not fit, constantly leeched charcoal dust and was very bulky. However, I am considering buying a one piece scentlok underlying garment to wear this fall though. I think Cabelas has them for around $99 the last time I checked.
|
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
Myself and a few of my hunting buds got a suit from an army surplus store here. Its the same type of a suit and its a good camo pattern. It does the same job as the expensive scent lock stuff but this suit set me back 80 dollars Canadian. It seems to work very well for me...

How do you like that MT050? |
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
I never have, it may work some but in 30 years of hunting I have learned that you are at the mercy of the wind and you are busted or your not.
|
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
Mantis.
Here is a pic of the outfit. You can see how thin it is here. Keep in mind this is also two layers because of the scent lok lining. The MT050 with out the scent lock is packable inside its own pocket. ![]() |
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
Thanks buckeye!
I just ordered some. Not scent lok though;) Someday maybe I'll try it out. |
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
I own some (liner type)... . it's around here somewhere. [&:] In fact, I wore it 3 or 4 times and then they had their infamous smoke damage sale and I bought a camo set for HALF PRICE!!!..... it's around here somewhere. I'm pretty sure they're both in a rubberized canoe bag around here somewhere. I know that because I energized(rejuvinated) them in the dryer right before the season last September. Their around here somewhere.[:-][&:]

RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
Never used it and prob never will. Hunted years without it and great success. Too many people think that it is a cure all and they still don't have to pay attention to the wind. Plus, way too pricey for me.
|
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
Never bought it. I was taught how to hunt and that playing the wind was a part of it.
|
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
No scent lok here for me. I doubt I'd use it even if it wasn't more money. I spend a few bucks on some of the scent soaps and sprays, but I see no need to wear suits of it.
|
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
I've never puposely bought any scent-lok product, but I did buy a pair of boots last year, that had a "scent-lok" tag on them. I didn't notice it until I got them home and cut the tag off. I thought about taking them back, but I thought "what the heck, it can't hurt that much", so I kept them.

RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
I'm not trying to be a smart @ss, but you guys that 'learned how to hunt the wind', don't deer ever walk downwind of you? I've killed plenty of deer wearing Scentlok and plenty without....I'm not going to say that it's a cure all, it's certainly not. I have killed my biggest buck to date last season....he came in directly downwind. If you properly care for and use the stuff it certainly won't hurt your chances but to each his own.

After you read this go to this thread and decide for yourself if it is worth the money of if you are being duped. http://forum.hunting.net/asppg/tm.as...7&mpage=1&key= |

Someone is using their noggin. My thoughs as well Jason. You guys watch to many forget the wind just hunt commercials. You are all lisitening to their marketing ploy and are sucked into their marketing gimic. I am a wind and scent fanatic. I always hunt the wind. Your bow treeestand and accessories all have foriegn odors. It would be impossible to keep everything scent free. How can you keep a climber scent free in the back of a pickup? I was taught how to hunt and that playing the wind was a part of it. You guys think you just put on your magic scent suit and say screw tha' wind I's gonna wander up tha' holler top sidee tha' wind and gonna' go get me a sons a bitchin deer. It don't work that way. People are so quick to judge when they have no idea. |
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
Not to be a smart a$$ either, but the deer downwind from me aren't the ones I'm interested in. Nothing I can do about them. It's the other 75% that are upwind or crosswind from me that I'm after.
Besides, you can't prove to me that the deer you killed wouldn't have come in whether you were or weren't wearing that suit. ALL the 'proof' that scentlock stuff works is anecdotal just like your story. For every one of those stories about deer coming in from downwind while wearing scentlock, we could get another story about the same thing happening for a guy who'd been without clean clothes or a bath for a week. I've had deer come in from downwind whilst I was squatted back up against a tree with my pants around my ankles and hoping I had enough TP left in my pack. It's not a hunting style I highly recommend though.[:-][&:] |

I can see it now a double drop tine buck comes into arthur stops 20 yards downwind broadside and he passes the shot because it isn't what he is after. Correct me if I am wrong. |
RE: Scent lok-who has never spent a dime on it?
If I am reading this correct if a deer was to come in to you from down wind and persent a shot you wouldn't take it because thats not what you are after???? I can see it now a double drop tine buck comes into arthur stops 20 yards downwind broadside and he passes the shot because it isn't what he is after. Correct me if I am wrong. Consider yourself corrected. |
