I heard a story that the chupacabra and the jackalope were being opened up in North America because of attacks against people and pet hamsters!!!!!!!!
. You have to at least use a 80 lb. draw weight or at least a .338 Lapua to take one of those things out. But be careful. Both the jackalope and the chupacabra, when killed, can be resurrected by an evil spell and can turn on the hunter that killed it, and its family and friends. So be careful out there!!!!!!LOL.[8D]

The thing that amazes me about this thread is how no has mention what excellent table fare Jackalopes truely are.
On my way to Montana I hit one with my Tahoe. The collision cause a blow out but I was fortunate enough to harvest a fresh killed lope. It was only a fork horn and those horns just tore my tire to shreds but the loss of the tire and minor body damage is a small price top pay for such fine meat.
The lope was instantly killed and somewhat tenderized when one of his main beams stuck into my sidewall of my right front tire as we cross paths at some 75 mph. It took a bit of distance to bring the Tahoe under control and to a stop. The "thump" "Bang" of his body alternately striking the pavement then my fender well was not a pleasent noise in the dark of the night along a lonely stretch of inter-state but the once I saw my prize I was thrilled.
A thorough job of field dressing the lope in the headlights and I was on my way.
Once in Camp, I was the hero who provides the greatest and rares of treats ever prepared on a campfire, Lope back straps and ribs. A meal I will always remember.

You guys might think you are great hunters but if you "really " knew ANYTHINGabout Jackalopes... You don't hunt them, THEY HUNT YOU!! YOU JUST TRY TO SURVIVE!!
Words of warning... Should you evermove to or even drive through jackalope country, I suggest you buy/rent a Ford dually one ton at the very least. You need a lot of tire surface and something heavily built.If you should run over one, don't get out of your vehicle to look. Wonder how many people have died on account of that?? And they wonder whysightings of Jackalopes are rare. Most people don't survive an encounter!! Duh!!! ForGod's sakeBACK over it again, then run over it one more time. It won't kill them just slow em down so you can out run them. They been unofficiallyclock at speeds over 75 mph. Cheetahs have nothing on them in terms of speed and endurance!!

You ain't seen nothing until you've seen a 'Kodiakalope'. They are to jackalopes what the Kodiak brown bear is to a Yellowstone griz, biggest and baddest in the world. Hey, mermaid just swam by my office, got to go!!!!

Lepus-temperamentalus is a very rare animal and only seen in the daylight a few times. This is a true story on where the name came from .......
* The Origin of the Name *
Well it was approx 1962-64 [can't remember]. I was at the now defunct burger chain White Tower in the sitting room/buttery. They were running a contest to name their stuffed frankenstein like animal. Why I came up with the name jackalope I don't remember, other than the fact it looked like a jack rabbit and an antelope [the horns] so jackalope! After registering my name of choice, a month [or 2 or 3] later I recieved notification and a US savings bond for $50 dollars. They said I had won the national contest and the stuffed animal that was hanging in the dining area in the rear of the building [the buttery] was now officially named "The Jackalope". I was a little kid - what did I know?
I took the savings bond and subsequently spent it a year or 2 later having a queen trigger fish stuffed that I caught while drift fishing off the Grand Bahama Island while on a family vacation. What irony to win money on a stuffed mutant and blow the dough on a stuffed fish. Years later I have neither the original savings bond nor the fish! Funny thing is, after all these years I have never owned a stuffed jackalope, although shortly after the contest my father aquired one [stuffed of course] and several of my family and friends have stumbled upon them. And now that I think of it - What ever happened to the one on display? Those cheap so-and-so's didn't even offer it to me!

This is an actual photograph of several Jackalopes robbing a hardware store. Clearly, these individuals had already shed their antlers.
Here's a picture of me harvesting my first jackalope. I used my "Egon Spangler Signature-Series Proton Pack" to make a clean harvest. The impact jarred his antlers loose, but I have unofficially estimated his antlers to score in the 409-416 range, with a few small deductions.
We cooked him later that evening. The family ate welland we were merry.
