You won't make any money off his rack.......that is the only variable that could change things.

The meat's value to me changes the more I have. What's so hard to understand? I never said the meat wasn't edible. Ever hear of the law of diminishing returns?
for the rack, of course
But seriously I give lots of meat away when I have a good year and am able to shoot more than I can use.
My memory is horrible.
I like having things for me to look at, I don't hide them from others, but I surely don't flaunt them. A few things are small and meaningless as they stand, but hold worth to me.
If I can't store it or eat it, its worthless to me.
Then why would you shoot it??

Given the hypothetical situation:
I just shot the buck of a lifetime. Joe DNR jumps out of the bushes and says I have to make a choice...can't have both, (and I'm not breaking any laws no matter what I decide).
I choose the horns. To me, right then...the horns are more important. Thats what I and many other hunters are ultimately after...the buck of a lifetime.

Make camp, butcher and start cookin', eat loins and straps, heart & liver (if you like), steaks, gain 25 lbs.
Pack out the rack.
Then again, if I'm not hungry, I take the meat home.....

Then I guess I'll figure out a way to keep BOTH. The original question borders on something "DUH" anyway. It won't happen, can't happen and NEVER will happen. I'll get it all out or none of it because I died trying.

I would take the meat.
Everyone that said they would take the rack instead of the meat is hunting for the wrong reason. You are just killing to kill. You really need to grow up and think about what you just said.
