Fellow Ethical Outdoors people,
We, thru no choice other than our own, choose to hunt and fish. We also choose how to scrutinize others' fortune and misfortunes.
The realization is, humanity will only be in acceptance of good fortune activities when ethical rules are both maintained and adhered to.
We all need to "step back" and "wear the shoes" of BOTH, good fortune & BAD, misfortune! Ethical scrutinization MUST BE MANDATED! If it is not, then we are no better than the coyotes that feed on others' misfortunes.
This is in regard to the Zaft controversy.

I'm not to smart.I'm not sure I know what you are trying to say.I read it and very well written, but just comes across to me as a huministic politcians statement.Dont know where you are trying to say you stand. And please I dont mean it as a criticism to you ,I just dont follow your thoughts.I dont think the guy was unethical just did not make a good judgement call in taking a high risk shot. Why did he do it? I have no idea. But maybe he learned a lesson, hopefully.I,ve done stupid things in my life to.But if he continues to take high risk shots then he is just plain stupid. No animal is worth wounding and make suffer for glory of being called a trophy hunter.

Cardeer.... I think Lab Man has been drinking some of his lab samples again. I entirely disagree with you lab man. This has NOTHING to do with the Zaft buck. It shouldn't matter if it a 50 pound doe or a world record. If it got away it got away. Everyone on here is not as quick as Cardeer so next time talk in laymans terms(ie. try on our penny loafers)<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Where did he shoot this buck? like what posistion was the deer when he shot? I am sure if he wouldn't have shot it in that position if it wasn't a "trophy" deer. Just the thought of possible world record blocked out the thoughts of ethical hunter. I am sure any one of us would have gotten a little to excited and chose a bad shot.

I agree that we need to "police our own ranks", guess that's what this is about. Now as far as Mr. Zaft, I say let those that have not lost an animal cast the first stone. By the looks of this site during hunting season there wouldn't be many. If this hadn't have been a big deer it would already been forgotten, why the difference? Don't all the animals we attempt to take deserve the same treatment? These things happen, and all we can do is try to do it better next time. Maybe it's time to leave it alone!!!!

Mr. "d"
I can see you are a "personal conclusions" based thinker. My user name Lab-Man portrays Labrador Retrievers and not what you so narrow mindedly presumed....laboratory!
Sorry 'bout that! But, you are the stereotype I am talking of above.
Step "out of the Box" once in awhile and when you do, look in a mirror at the same time!

The Lab is a noble animal( @ the service of man) another shot at civilization and man's ethic's. So Mr.Lab, not to be rude, but before you come to judge, I think you should first step out of your box and take a look at yourself. Those who are quick to come up with answer's, even if stated with eliquince, really have no answer's at all. In regard's to ethic's and zaft's buck. If we are already questioning this, then obviously our thought's on ethic's are very much alive and kicking. For those of the human species that make mistakes, unless you are a rock, thing's happen (mistakes) and then you try to fix them. No one is perfect. That is my thought's on your comment's, may they be closed minded or not.
Good shooting.

Lab-Man, I took your screen name to imply dogs. Does that make me narrow minded for not thinking laboratory? I think not. Zaft took a poor shot, but may have gotten extremely lucky after all. That's a given. His motives are known only to him. But they can be scrutinized!! What is a good fortune activity? Winning the lotto? Getting a world record, possibly with the help of coyotes? Who sets the rules? The people participating? Or the often misinformed, nonparticipatory people looking in? We are all responsible for our own actions. But when we choose to enter the limelight, our peers are best equipped to view and judge our mistakes, or lack of.
