Find a good used bow at a proshot, you can usually get twice the bow for half the money. Buying a new bow is really waste of money. You can get the same exact bow 6 months later for sometimes as much as $400 less. Go used.

I don't like to buy used bows. I don't trust that the previous owner took as good care of it as I would have. Too easy to mess up a bow if you're not careful. Sure you can shoot it before you buy it, but problems may surface after purchase. Lots of folks buy used, just not for me. Bows, Boats and Bikes(motorcycles) are the 3 things I won't buy used unless I know the original owner. See ya.

You may want to take a good look at the North American Archery Group line of bows. The group consists of Jennings, Buckmaster, Fred Bear, Golden Eagle, etc... Prices on many of their bows are usually signficantly cheaper than many of the pro shop only lines that you see talked about here on a regular basis. One in particular I may suggest checking out is the Jennings Rackmaster. Very similar in specs and design to the Mathews FX, Bowtech Stalker, Hoyt Havoc, etc... but priced around $300-$350.

Hope this helps.

Your choice of a Browning or another PSE would be an excellent choice. Quality bows with a long reputable track record of dependability.

I understand your concern, but I've probably bought 10 used bows over the last several years, and I have never had any problem with a single one of them. I try to buy bows that are only 1 year old, and usually b/c they have such a high price tag when new, the previous owner took good care of it.
