Pinelander - hell of a string slap there huh ? !!
I don't argue who's bow is superior, just that there are huge differences. Look at the thread " I didn't think it'd be this easy" or whatever it is .... don't see many of those on recurves/longbows.
I don't care WHAT others shoot, really. I am all for crossbows in reg archery season. But when guys say "compounds are just as hard ... blah blah blah " .... I just can't help myself
Anyway, you getleman can argue until you're blue in the face about who's equipment is superior yadda yadda yadda

May I interpret that as saying that you're better with a compound and it gives you a greater opportunity to kill a deer than you would with your recurve ? Absolutely nothing wrong with that, just trying to read between the lines. Thoughts of 300 fps, 80% letoff, 50-60 yards accuracy etc etc dance through my head occassionally too !
Yes, a trad bow is going to be harder to kill deer with than a compound. But most trad guys (the ones I have met and talked to, do not trophy hunt.) Most shoot does and young bucks - again a tougher way to hunt these deer than with a compound.
So between the lines it reads - I still think guys who persue mature bucks on pressured land with a compound have much more difficult task than a trad guy hunting "deer" on that same land. I know for a fact I could wacked a truck load of small bucks and does with trad equip this year - really not that hard to do in some areas.
I use a compound because I need the advantage it gives me - when you are presented one or two oportunities a year at a good buck - you need to make it count.
I wouldn't ever make that a point to argue with a trad guy until a trad guy makes it a point to argue (or just discuss
) it with me.Sorry but trad guys plinking doe and dinks does not really impress me - IMO its not as hard as some make it out to be.
Its still a great way to persue this sport - and have fun

There are many different levels to this sport - trad is just one of them.

There would be no bowhunting if it wasn't for the native american
Furthermore, it is the elitist attidude being spewed by NSBM that causes me to not want to be known as a trad shooter. Yes, I own a recurve, and I even small game hunt with it. Having said that, it is that very attitude that is prevelant on the Leather Wall that turns my stomach. Here in Georgia the Traditional Bowhunters of Georgia will not let you become a full member of their elitist club if you hunt with anything other than trad gear. Kind of elitist don't you think?

And here I thought bows were in Asia and Europe for centuries before "white man" even knew the Wester Hemisphere existed. So now the Native Americans invented bowhunting?

Great post Rack!!! That is the very reason I can't make the transition over to traditional. Even though it would be a great thrill to kill does and small bucks with traditional gear, nothing takes the place of putting down a mature buck. And if my compound will let me get that extra 10 yds I need, so be it.

Thanks for the book tip and the invite to your campfire. I'm $$$ short right now but hope to have $$ to get a stick in the spring. Don't know too much about it though. any suggestions on recurve or longbow. I know H. Hill didn't have much success with the recurve but then came Fred.
You too are welcome at my campfire along with everyone else here. And I don't care what kinda bow you have. [:-]

Take it easy guys, Jeff Coggins was a great traditional shooter. I happen to own a longbow, too. Watch it with the indian stuff, I have cherokee in me[:@]
But I don't think it is right to talk crap about us compound hunters either. Leave it at that
What about the great Byron Fergueson; he is one of the most amazing traditional trick shooters I have ever seen. In fact, I am going to see him at the Ohio Deer & Turkey Expo.

So, when you're fooling around with recurves you avoid driving a car, getting on the computer or wiping with toilet paper, right?
