Terrible Sight

I live in Idaho and when you drive by the resevior just north of town all you can see are elk and deer bodies frozen in the ice. the count went from 85 to 143 in a few days. Our wintering grounds are lacking in food for the hungry animals and I know that this is mother natures way of helping the others, but what a sad sight to see. As much as I like to see an animal on the ground during a day of hunting it deeply saddens me to see such a sight. People were going out in canoes to try to rescue these animals. Some were floating motionless will others were in a panic to get out. Right now people are taking shifts on the shores of the resevior to keep the animals away. This is one case where the anti's and the pro's are coming together for one cause. One in which both can agree. Save the animals.

This may be a dumb question but why are they going in the lake in the first place? I see you say the wintering grounds are lacking food, but why are they trying to go into the lake?

That does sound like something that would be hard to see. One time when i was fishing with my dad in a good sized lake we have out here. I saw a dead doe at the water's edge. Not sure how long it was there but there is a lot of MT. lions, yotes and other predators out there and it didnt show any sign of being attack or eaten. My guess was it drowned and washed up the same day I was there. That is good to know that the antis and pros are working together at least.

I read in the paper that 90 were elk, and the rest that drowned were deer. Makes you wonder how many fell in when no one was around doing the counting. Sure would like to rent a helicopter, and go snag one of them elk, but probably would be pretty pricey, for some elk steak.

It's definately nice to see all people coming together for a common cause. I hope they are suscessful in their efforts.
P.S. When I first read the title to the post I thought you were refering to a sight on your bow. Usually a terrible sight on a bow is due to user error. I'm glad that's not the case although it would be better than the sight you are refering to.
