PA hunters

Well the hunting seasons have come and gone in PA. I was curious to how everyone is planning to scout for next years archery season? i think i am going to start to scout at the end of this month or sooner. I plan on buying a stealth cam and trying to get some pics of any buck that still alive on the property i hunt before they lose their antlers. Last time i checked, only like one buck was taken and the rest were all does. This can be good and bad but we will see. I was wondering how many other people start to scout now and what their strageties are these early in next years season?

I've already been scouting and located a couple nice funnels that the deer are using here in nh. I haven't set up my camara yet to cold and I think it will kill my batteries to soon, hopefully it will warm up to the 20's soon. Also doing some long distance scouting in pa. Looking to bowhunt a new region this year (s.central) Been down loading maps of state game lands, calling visitors center in that county to recieve more info. 8 more months can't wait!!

I plan on starting to "prep" a few areas that I normally hunt this weekend. When I say "prep" I mean "selective trimming". If done early enough then this allows you to create new trails that deer take advantage of come this spring and summer...basically allowing you to "create" a hunting scenario to more accurately fit stand placement, etc.. Ofcourse, this can only be done on private land as trees cannot be trimmed on public land here in PA.
I also have a new area that I plan on frequenting next season. Like you, I plan on putting the Stealth cam up in the weeks to come just to see what is in the area and when they are frequenting certain sections.

I plan on finding new ground, especially farms. I had the opportunity to hunt 1 farm this year. I forgot how fun it was. I have'nt hunted a farm in 4 years. I also plan on trekking some more in the big woods. My journeys also will be finding other places for spring gobbler. I'm going to wait a couple weeks. Hopefully it will get a little warmer.

I'll be out every weekend from now until archery season starts. My Non-nontypical game cam will be out next week and won't got a break until fall. I have 3 new properties to scout and will probably wait for a snow fall to check the new areas out. I'll be checking the old properties in between looking for old rubs and travel routes that weren't hunted last year. I enjoy this time of year. It builds excitement and anticipation for next season.

Same as others have mentioned. I enjoy walking new areas about a week or two after snow has laid on the ground. You can really start to pick up on travel routes - funnels - bedding areas. I know their travels will change as summer rolls around but they'll be back to these core areas. I too will do some trimming of some new spots.
I saw a few of you mention Stealth Camera - which model do you guys have and how happy are you with it?

I have been going out every weekend since rifle season was over and still go out during the week looking for sign. I saw a real nice 12 pointer that made it threw the season's just two days ago. It was nice body and had a couple drop tines I plan on going for him next year.

Hey Legacy, where do you hunt around State College? I hunt near Jullian an some private property. I usually use flintlock/late archery season to do some scouting and then manage to get out a few times throughout the winter spring and summer to check things out, build and place stands and look for sheds. The property I hunt is small compared to some others so my hunting partner and I seem to have found that the deer use the same trails and routes year after year, Which is good, because it makes scouting much much easier.
