Default I think I got it....

I held up my gun and I see 2 guns and 1 target with both eyes opened. Since I am right handed left eyed it is confusing. Would I be more accurate to hold my bow up and aim with both eyes opened and concentrate on the right pin since I will see two of the same ones or should I just leave my left eye closed. Would that effect my shot. Thanks

If you're left eye dominant and right handed, there's only three ways you're ever going to be consistant.

1. Learn to shoot left handed.
2. Close your left eye and aim with your right eye.
3. Wear a patch over your left eye. That way you can relax with both eye open.

These are the things good target archers and hunters do. There's just no way to adjust and aim with both of your eyes open.

Good luck to you.

I've learned how to close my left eye during shooting. Also when I do use my left eye shooting I still see 2 guns/bows 1 target. So I guess I can't switch hands. It doesn't effect me though.

Danny45............. is right on! And with your next comment I would recomend you switch hands. I've done it, just be committed and it will come along quickly!

Good luck!

I think I've transfered from left to right eye. When I look through my left/right hand gun I can see double guns either way. I guess the only thing I can do is to close one eye.

Danny45 - Bull$hit ! I shot for 13 years with a compound, right hand and extremely left eye dominant. I shot both eyes open and never had a problem. I was good enough to win 3D shoots because I shot a lot and tinkered a lot.

DO NOT CLOSE BOTH EYES !! You lose dpeth perception and periphreal vision.

Larry Yien is an excellent target archer and he's cross dominant, Howard Hill was cross dominant, Fred Bear switched hands and was deadly with either as is Byron Ferguson - so yes, cross dominance is something to overcome but its not unlike playing ball sports.

Do you see any NBA players closing an eye while shooting ? Any baseball players using a patch ? Hell no, and I gaurantee some of them are cross dominant.

Its not near the issue people make it to be.

Thanks stealthycat. I was also told to cover one eye with a patch. Will this help. The problem I have is when I have both eyes open I see 2 targets. I don't really know how to tell because when I do the eye tests for dominance, I do the put your hands in a triangle and aim at something and pull back. Which ever eye you touch is your dominant eye. test. I end up seeing 2 sets of hands. I just don't know.

Me too zak123.

Do this. At arms length hold up your left hand. With your thumb and forefinger make a circle. Look at something through this circle with both eyes open ... like a door knob, or glass, or something like that, and place that object in the center of your circle.

Now close your right eye. The object didn't move, did it ?

Now close your left eye. The object "jumped" didn't it ?

Theres how you tell - and if that happened you are left eye dominant.

I shot with a peep and assume you do ? You simply concentrate and forec yourself to look through the peep. Ever shot a rifle with a scope ? Both eyes open and looking with your right eye through the scope ? I do it, no problem.

I shoot basketball, right handed. My hand/arm alignment is NOT in tune with my left eye - but with my right eye. So how do I play ball without closing it ? I dunno, I just do it, and pretty good too. Your MIND knows how to compensate, this is especially true with trade bows and shooting instinctive.

Aanyway, just concentrate. You can actually force your right eye - retrain temporarily if you will - to become the dominant eye. Its not easy - for every waking moment of your life its been your left eye doing the dominance. But you can do it - and a peep makes it so much easier.

Try it - its not tough really.

I do shoot peep. Also when I do the tests I either see 2 hands or 2 door knobs. That is the problem.

Zak you need to see an eye doctor. What you describe is not eye dominance it's double vision. See a Dr. and let him guide you.
