RE: Shot placement on wild boar.....
Could you shoot a wild boar head on?? Maybe with a .45. Your only shot on a wild board with a bow should be behind the shoulder, into the heart and lung area. And hope he doesn't know you're there!!! If one was charging, and I had no choice, I'd try (that's a trick in itself) to aim for one of it's eyes. Shooting the skull is going to upset it more than it already is (not a good thing) and trying to shoot over it's head into the spine is iffy too. If you hit him in the eye, you might get a chance to get into the nearest tree!!

RE: Shot placement on wild boar.....
I've bowhunted lots of javilina, but never wild boar.
During my hunts out west in Arizona I've talked
to friends from California about shot placement
on large feral hogs. They told me quartering away
was the best angle to get at the vitals. If I remember
right, there is more bone covering the vitals on a
broadside shot than you think.
Hopefully someone with a little experience will get
on here and add to this.

Zak, I personally love hunting hogs with my bow. Like someone said, quartering away is your best shot by far. The sows it really does not matter as long as it broadside. The boars have a thick bone plate to protect them when they fight. It covers most of the front shoulder. A smaller fixed blade broadhead is what I choose. Remember that pistol when your tracking. If you injure one and it gets to squealing, others will come to protect it. Good Luck.
