i say a 300 win mag, 270, or tarhunt 12 gauge is not a gun and has no place in firearms hunting!

why is it ok for other methods to evolve but not archery?

if , God forbid, one of us was hurt and couldnt pull back a bow anymore, how would it feel to watch the precious autumn days slip by .............

I don't own one, wouldnt want one(they are not as effective as my bow, but why not give them a special season? just a week or so? why alienate folks that are disabled?
here in NY the rules for a crossbow permit are so stringent it's ridiculous. If you have ONE ARM you can't use one!! you need to be so disabled that the only way you can pull a trigger is with a "sip and puff" breather unit!.

Meanwhile, you can put a 3-9 scope on an Omega BP rifle and wail on deer at 200 yds in the shotgun only zones.

Do you think we'd be living in teepees if Matthews was invented by the Sioux? Evolution, man . and the only guys I'll listen to bit*h about crossbows are the traditional archers. thier arguments hold water, not the ones from us compound shooters....
Speaking of compounds, i'm going back out in the woods!

buckeyebuckhntr - Same exact thing can be said of compound hunters

CBM SC - Shoot a longbow/recurve and then tell me its not radically different than shooting a compound.

" It's not archery, not even close. "

Urban_Redneck - Theres a lot of states that have archery laws that most definitely consider crossbows legal archery equipment. To me, a compound isn't archery.

" A crossbow is not a bow and has no place in archery! "

Why ?

Zelazny , I have owned two Bear Grizzlys and may buy another recurve this coming year. I know the difference...........but I did not post a thread asking if shooting a recurve was the same as a compound or I would have expected negative responses such as this fellow has gotten.

The guy asked if we thinks it's the same.........I know it's not !!!

Oh and by BTW I said "It's not the same , not even close" ......I did not say "It's not Archery, not even close" !!

Anytime I perceive the bar being lowered in an activity I enjoy, I'll rail against it

Much like you looking down your nose at compound shooters, I bristle a bit with "Old Schoolism" (new word ) at 80% let-offs, mechanical releases, and red dot scopes on hunting bows.

I know my response is based only on ego and my feeling that the (skill based) exclusiveness of the sport is forever slipping away.

You mileage may vary,

I know this. But this was not the question at hand. The question was are they (x bows) the same as a compound. You are just nit picking by changing the question around so its relevent to your situation as a trad bow shooter.

In my opinion an x bow has more negatives than positives to a person who puts his time in practicing. An x bow only benefits the people who shoot the day before the opener or are unable to draw a bow. JMO.

For the record I have no problems with x bow shooters. My brother, 3 of my best friends and my step father all shoot Horton X bows. I am the only one in my group of hunting buddies who shoots a compound.

CBM SC - I know you didn't say that, I was quoting another.

Urban Redneck - Cool, at least you realize the hyporcirty of your stance and willingly accept it anyway.

Am I nitpicking ? The post was

is using a crossbow cheating? thats what i have always used and there is a few people that said it isn't the same as a bow just woundering?
The answer should be , no more cheating than a crifle compared to a shotgun, compared to a muzzleloader, compared to a compound , compared to a longbow/recurve compared to a self bow compared to a spear compared to a butter knife.

Most "archers" willingly take hypocritical pot shots at crossbow users whenever they get the opportunity, and I sense that in some of the posts here as well.

nitro23 - if its legal, if you enjoy that weapon of choice, hunt with it. There will ALWAYS be more challengin weapons and less challenging weapons, but if people tell you a crossbow isn't a weapon (I live in Arkansas too) they are LYING to you, and that is a FACT.

Crossbows didn't evolve from compounds........they have been around for hundreds of years.
