Quote from Arthur P:Again, my opinion is if it's held like a gun, aimed like a gun and discharged like a gun - regardless of it's effective range, what projectile it fires or whether it goes BANG or not - then it belongs in gun or general season.

That has got to be the most idiotic statement that I have ever heard. Yeah, crossbows and firearms should be grouped in the same weapons category for deer season purposes. I have taken several deer at 400+ yds. with a crossbow. Crossbows are every bit as challenging as compounds. For one, if you knew what you were talking about you would realize that for the most part, compound bows have a greater effective range than most crossbows. Secondly, crossbows are considerably louder than compound bows, thus creating another challenge. I am in no way knocking guys who use compound bows. If that is their weapon of choice, then good for them! Compound bows (for most people) do require more practice throughout the year to maintain your accuracy than what a crossbow does, which is exactly why I choose to use a crossbow. I do not have the time year-round to shoot a compound bow to stay in practice. I feel that we owe it to the game that we hunt to be able to make clean, killing shots when that moment arrives, and when I do practice and tune my crossbow I spend as long as it takes to get it to group shots like I want it to or else I don't go into the woods with it. So preach all you want, but I am going to stick to my crossbow, and if you don't like it then I can guarantee you that I will not lose one second of sleep, because frankly Arthur I don't give a damn!

I've spent the past 14 hours working to get this computer back online after some JERK (and I hate to insult jerks like that, but the moderators won't let me express my true opinion) blasted me with 12 worm viruses yesterday and the day before while I was ON THIS SITE. Strange that I wasn't hit with 'em before I got involved in this crossbow crap, ain't it...

Even stranger. The last time my computer was attacked was when I was involved in another crossbow thread. Wouldn't that make the average guy at least sit back in his chair, stroke his chin and say 'hmmm'? I've got my suspicions, I guarantee you!

Since I'm in such a foul mood at the moment, Ruger, I think it best I not respond to your assinine appraisal of the comment you quoted above. Suffice it for the moment to say your diatribe is full of half truths, if not outright lies. If crossbows are as challenging as you (falsely) claim, then the majority of people in Ohio's bow/crossbow season WOULD NOT BE USING THEM, but would be using compounds instead.

At the moment, I'm in favor of rounding up every crossbow in the world and burning the #$@! things!!

First of all, Arthur Piss. I know d@#n well you are not accusing me of giving your computer a virus. About all I know about computers is how to turn them on. So you can keep on stroking your chin, and I'm sure that's not all you are stroking by the way. And if you want to come round up all the crossbows and burn them, then come get mine any time you are feeling energetic there cowboy. I really hate like hell that you are in such a foul mood. That just tears me up. It sounds to me like you need a hobby or a job that occupies more of your time, and once again, what the hell business is it of yours what weapon I choose. You don't make or enforce the laws. What are you anyway a wannabe rent-a-warden? That is what it sounds like to me. So as someone else said, when you start buying my license, weapons, hunting gear, then you can advise me what weapons I should or should not use, until then you can kiss my a$$. I am finished arguing with you about this subject. You just prove more and more with each post how much of an a$$ that you are and I have better things to do with my time. I have stated my opinion and that's that. So go ahead let me have it bad boy, because you won't get any more argument out of me. Have a nice day!

You're right, bobcat. I shouldn't have come on here angry in the first place. But when I saw that 'idiotic' claptrap, I blew up. My apologies... to MOST of you.

But here is the perfect illustration of the kind of double talk these crossbow folks try to pull, when they think you've got your brain on hold:

Crossbows are every bit as challenging as compounds.
And then, practically in the same breath they'll say something like:

Compound bows (for most people) do require more practice throughout the year to maintain your accuracy than what a crossbow does, which is exactly why I choose to use a crossbow. I do not have the time year-round to shoot a compound bow to stay in practice.
Anyone care to tell us how crossbows are every bit as challenging as compounds but they don't require as much practice time to be proficient? I'm absolutely dying to hear THAT story.

Anybody besides me notice how many pro-crossbow guys that come on these forums and stir the crossbow pot are from Canada? Their noses are a little to long to keep in their own business, I guess. Like I told a couple of them not long ago, if they'd paid half as much attention to their legislators as they have to U.S. hunting weapons laws, maybe they wouldn't have lost so many of their gun rights.

Arthur, by "as challenging" I mean the limited range of each of these two types of weapons, not the difficulty to shoot them, so don't put words in my mouth or say that I was contradicting myself. Also, where do you get that I am from Canada? I mean, seriously. Where on my profile or in my posts does it say that? I am from Northeast Arkansas. Now, for the seventeenth time. IT IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS WHICH WEAPON THAT I CHOOSE TO HUNT WITH. Our state allows the use of crossbows in the archery season, if you don't like crossbows, then here's a crazy idea. DON'T USE THEM, but don't try to degrade those who do. I did contradict myself in one way, I said that I would not give you the satisfaction of arguing with you again. So I guess I lied. But I could not help myself. I guess I am just hoping that you will finally realize how ignorant you sound, but probably not. It's obvious that you just love to argue. I mean, you have made nearly 2,000 posts on this website. As I said earlier, get a job! I guess maybe you are pissed off because maybe you aren't as successful of a hunter as you would like to be. Well here is some good advice. Spend just one tenth of the time on your scouting and hunting as you do on here arguing and I guarantee that you will see the benefits. Hey, Art. Why don't you try and start an anti-crossbow movement, that will give you something to do to occupy more of your time. Heck, just think. With a little hard work and persistence, you might just be able to have all those crossbows rounded up and burned.

RugerNo.1, first...welcome to the board.

Second, ArthurP has his opinion on crossbows being used in archery only season.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion concerning the use of crossbows during archery only season.

A couple of points regarding your posts on this thread....

You are assuming that Arthur knows next to nothing about crossbows. Unless you are really old(sorry Arthur)and have about 40 years of experience with ALL types of archery equipment and crossbows, you are completely out of your league here.

Another thing is this...with 10 posts under your belt on this board, maybe you should think about learning to show a little restaint in your posts. Especially until you get a clue what your opponent may, or may not know about the subject at hand.

I don`t have to warn you about using that type of language on this board, for I am sure the moderators will.

Now, back to the subject...your opinion is yours, however, the vast majority of state game commissions disagree with your position regarding crossbows.

Regardless of the points you or stealthy, or anyone else brings up in the defense of the crossbows use during archery only season, you just hit the nail on the head as to why you really use them. You will not take the time to practice with your recurve, longbow, or compound.

I agree with you when you say that we owe it to the animals we hunt to make good shots. If that means you must use a crossbow because you won`t/can`t take the time to practice with conventional archery equipment, that is fine.

Just use it during gun season. Where crossbows belong. They are not hand drawn, they are not hand held, they do NOT belong in archery only season, unless you are legitimately handicapped.

That is my opinion. BTW, my opinion is about 4 times more popular than your opinion.

You may now offr a rebuttal, but try to remember to keep it civil.

Gentlemen, gentlemen, gentlemen. As with all the other crossbow threads this one has reverted to name calling and total dis-respect to each other. It has turned from debate to argument. I thank BigCountry for trying to get it back on course. Lets all step back and take a deep breath and show some respect by debateing the topic and loose all the other stuff. If not, well you know the routine.
Thanks.
