Can`t remember where I found the data, but the heaviest recorded weight for a whitetail was indeed the one already mentioned here. 511 live weight, from minnesota.
The heaviest muley was 505 live weight, if I am remembering correctly.
I shot a whitetail that field dressed 294# in 2000, and the landowner of my lease in Illinois shot one in slug season that dressed at 328#.
400# live weight is not all that rare in midwest states.

This is very possible i lived in hill city mn until 1999 it is north of the twin cities about 160 miles and for the big buck contest up there they go by weight and 1-3 are 376 to 379 so 400 can definatley be reached and the average doe is 150 field dressed

Hey BC...I live just down the road in Plum. Please email me your address so I can cut you a check for my portion of the Illinois lease. I have never even seen a 300 pound deer in my life and you guys are dressing them out at that weight. Holy cow...deer. I anxiously await your email. My pen is warmed up and the checkbook is open. I can tell that we are going to become fine friends.
Good luck...Jim

I second that answer. I just heard an interveiw on the radio with the relative of the guy who shot it. He has the mount and lots of photos from back in 1924.
Good Luck!

Your contest winners are that big? We run contests around here all the time and once every 5 years the winner is around 260+, any buck shot in MN over 230 is a pig! I have a hard time believing that less than 150 miles away the deer are that much bigger, and especially without the good cropland that we have here.
For all of you to know, 300 pound field dressed deer are not common, maybe 1 in a hundred thousand, here in MN. Anyone telling you different is mistaken.

Jimimac, I have buddies from Plum that go out there with me.
At the risk of getting my fingers slapped......I am an outfitter in Illinois. Got all kinds of property. E-mail me if you want to.
