My family and I had been one of the old cast-iron grinders for many years though I did receive an electric model for Christmas this season. I think it is a Cabelas model and have not had a chance to use it as of yet. When I do then I will post more.

I bought an electric grinder/sausage stuffer made by OSTER for $84 at our local sporting goods store. Has 1/3 hp moter and REALLY kicks out the meat(rated for 3 lbs/min). Use last night for burger, and had deer ground in about 35 min. Steve

I' ve used a cast iron crank type from Cabela' s for years. (The cheapest one). Ground up 20 pounds of Deer burger last Sunday with it.
Works even better if you have a teenage boy to do the cranking.[
] It does a great job at little cost, however if I was to buy one today, I' d opt for a good electric one.

Over the years, I' ve used everything from the hand cranked kind to the commercial electric grinders. You basically get what you pay for. The cheaper ones are OK for small amounts once or twice a year, but will quickly bind up with the tough fibrous membrance that inevitably gets into the meat and are a hassle to constantly take apart and fix. They also wear out rather quickly. The best ones start at around $600.00 or so and work much better. I got a combination band saw/meat grinder through harbor freight tools for under $300.00 and it works great for me and makes great round steaks (from the hind quarters) in about 5 minutes for both sides!

Hi DaveH,
As for your band saw / grinder, do you have a website or contact for the supplier ? I am interested in the same type of setup, but being from Canada may have trouble ordering across the border .......
Thanks

This should take you to the search page for meat grinders from Harbor Freight.
I don' t think you' ll have much of a problem with the cross-border shipping.

If for some reason that doesn' t work, go to www.harborfreight.com and search for meat grinders.

Thanks for the quick replies ......... as for the Northern Tool saw, has anyone tried these or know of a friend with one ? I noticed their " value" saw is only 199 bucks, but they also have a deluxe for over 400 bucks .............
Is the 199 dollar model going to last ?
Get what you pay for ?
Thanks again .........
