Default Deer huntings effect on our economy

I thought this was very interesting....

Top 5 States by annual retail sales of hunting related products......

Texas......1.7 Billion
Pennsylvania........1.1 Billion
Wisconsin........960 Million
New York............891 Million
Alabama.............799 Million
.................................................. ..

What deer hunters spent on travel and gear.....

Food/refreshments...............1.1 Billion
Lodging..............239 Million
Planes, trains, rental cars...41 Million
Clothes/boots................247 Million
Binos/spotting scopes............79 Million
Rifles................493 Million
Muzzleloaders.................75.7 Million
Bows, arrows, archery gear..........334 Million
.................................................. ........

Nationwide economic impact of deer hunting

Overall retail sales...........10.6 Billion
Salaries and wages............6.8 Billion
Jobs........239 Million
State income tax.............117 Million
Federal income taxes...............1.2 Billion
Sales and motor fuel tax..............410 Million

If no one hunted deer...........alot of people would be in trouble.

Thanks for those stats mallard. Take away hunting and the peta freaks may even find themselves out of a job. Here in MI, the hunting season dumps a half billion into our economy. There' s a ton of folk in the northern lower and U.P. that count on making a living off hunters and snowmobilers.

Yep, that' s for sure. The effects would go far beyond retail sales.

There is also the negative effect on the economy that hunters can change. I saw a piece on NBC news tonight on the insurance aspect of deer. There are something like 1.1 million car accicents involving deer (not sure about human fatalities, but it was over 100 as I recall). The dollar figure was easily over a billion.

We can cut this down, get out there everyone

Yeah but what about all the negative economic effects of hunting? I.E. missed days of work, decreased productivity at work due to posting on message boards... oops, uh-oh... better get back to work...
